| Posted: | | | | I'm currently contributing quite a lot of profiles, mainly for adding color information. I noticed that on many profiles DVD Profiler asks me if I want to contribute cast or crew because of added birth years. I'm sure that I didn't add the BY to the profiles so why are they on my machine but not in the online database? And should I contribute them even if I didn't check them to be true?
EDIT: I was also asked to contribute different production companies that I didn't change either | | | Recently bought films:

| Posted: | | | | If you have a name with no birth year, then accept an update to add a birth year for any profile in your collection, it will add said birth year to every instance of that name.
To use a real example, let's says you have a few episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Kevin Murphy was a writer and played Tom Servo.
You also have Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica. Kevin Murphy is executive producer there. It's not the same Kevin Murphy, though.
Someone submits a birth year for 1956 for the first guy to distinguish him. When you accept it, it doesn't just apply the year to that profile, but to all credits in your database that don't already have a birth year, even though some of them are a different guy.
This is one of the major problems with the current credit system. If you don't have a birth year for the other guy, and you frequently don't, even with semi well-known people, you have to go manually change all the wrong credits. Once you have two instances of a name, it won't automatically apply birth years to credit, but this is always a problem with the first variant. |

| Posted: | | | | Thank you for your explanation. So now I still have the mystery how the same can happen for production companies. My profile of "Alien" has "Labrador Pictures" as a production company and I have no idea how it got there. | | | Recently bought films:

Other than expected the Studio editor has no search function. Means: If a Studio is highlighted and you type another name, the highlighted name gets overwritten. In your case this most likely was the first studio (20th Century Fox). | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
