| Posted: | | | | Just started dvdProfiler and got a lot of database error messages. Finally suggested to 'fix' the database. When i did that i got a massive list of cast members (1348 cast members removed), studios (83) studios removed), crew members (555 removed) ...
2 questions
1) Does dvdprofiler load lots of stuff into your db that you don't have and don't need? Or do you start with a blank db and these just somehow got in there.
2) More importantly ... after adding and cleaning up my 1700+ discs ... should i trust what is there now after the fix? Even though at start up it tried to remove some pretty good discs/sets. OR should i do a restore and hope that at least the backup was good.
Looking for best ideas Thanks DSig |

| Posted: | | | | Really .. no one?
More information. After i did the 'fix' i did a backup. Then later in the day i added 10 movies. After trying to figure out reports .. i did another 'fix' just to see .. Imagine my surprise when there were more actors etc removed.
Why is this?
Is this product stable? I would hate to have anything happen to my entries after getting all 1700+ entered and setup.
Thanks DSig |

| Posted: | | | | You start with an empty DB. The unused actors/studios and so on are created as you get updates from the on-line DB. When people change for common names and so on you can wind up with unused names |

1. You start with a complete blank database. Cast/crew are added via the downloaded profiles or manually by you. There should be no un-needed cast/crew added in the above fashion.
2. Your backup should have been done before you did the repair. Likely a few days before you started getting the error messages.
Usually I just do a "Profile" only backup and uncheck all the others. Covers can be re-downloaded again if needed (unless manual profiles). That way if I need to restore my database only the cast/crew that are actually in my profiles are restored.
Have you downloaded any of the headshot databases from the forum? That's one way to get lots of cast/crew that aren't connected to any profiles into your local database. |

Untill you delete a profile. After deletion all those cast & crew members who doesn't appear in any other profile in your collection become un-needed. |

Just trying to understand this in db terms .. there is no referential integrity between a profile and the cast & crew. Hmm .. okay i understand and that explains a lot Thanks a lot for that DSig |
