If you're sure that you haven't burned the disc, the EAN is 886919027495.

If it's an EAN it should be 13 digits. Calculating the check digit gives an 8 so 8869190274958 would probably be more correct but I don't know how we deal with these kind of "errors".

Often some pre-release contributions are made with a leading zero, just because the sites that announce the release have it with 0 listed.
Until no-one notices Invelos, they remain as second entry for the same movie in database.

The slight difference is: in the physical world 886919027495 exists, 0886919027495 doesn't.

Weird. Me too. And B-rDs. And on the first page of The Rules 12-Digit and 13-Digit UPC/EAN pictures are shown.

"Do not contribute titles with 'made up' or otherwise inaccurate UPCs" is one thing.

But additionally contribute a removal of the real profile is daring.

Hello

When you see an EAN starting with a 0 then it means it is in fact an UPC. F.e.:

0886979926097

00 to 09 at the beginning tells us it is country USA. USA has UPC, so my scanner f.e. reads automatically only 886979926097, the 0 is away, the film is in as UPC. There are no 13-digits EAN starting with a zero. Does it it tells it is an UPC code. Most films like that are open in Germany without the leading 0, a barcodescanner then finds it. There are some open with the 0 and then the scanner does not find the film. So allways open those films without the leading zero.

It's not that weird, most major record companies started worldwide CD distribution using 12-digit UPCs, registered in the US. Two major companies switched into DVD distribution, keeping 12-digit UPCs: BMG and PolyGram.

PolyGram Video was absorbed by Seagram and became Universal Pictures Video outside the USA (dropping the word 'video' shortly after). For a short period the 04400X-XXXXXX block was used worldwide for DVDs of PolyGram/Universal.

BMG is a slightly different story, when 'Universum Film' (a Bertelsmann subsidiary, like BMG) started releasing DVDs in Germany, BMG kept distribution duties for their sister company, using their UPCs registered to the New York office. And now, even after BMG sold most of their record businesses to Sony Music, Sony Music (not Sony Pictures Home Ent., that's another company) keeps distributing DVDs & BDs for Universum under UPCs.

Also note that not all Universum releases have 12-digit UPCs, only the retail discs have. The rental releases have a 13-digit EAN (4013575XXXXXX).

And of course there are still some smaller [record] companies (like Intergroove) around that applied for a 12-digit UPC block in the US for whatever reason.

00 to 09 at the beginning tells us it is country USA.

Now let's make a switch from UPC and EAN to GTIN-12 and GTIN-13 as they are now officially called. Why? Because they are part of the same system, from the database standpoint it shouldn't make a difference if you have a GTIN-12 or a GTIN-13 with a leading zero, even the check digit stays the same. The only thing a GTIN-13 with leading zero tells us, is that the numbering block was assigned by GS1 US.

Quote:
There are no 13-digits EAN starting with a zero. Does it it tells it is an UPC code.

That's a difference that doesn't matter... or shouldn't matter, to be more precise. Using UPC design bar codes, you should print all 12 digits of a GTIN-12, but if you use an EAN design bar code you'd print 13 digits, even if you use a GTIN-12.

The best example are the early releases of DreamWorks (already then distributed by Universal Pictures) in Germany, and the UK, and other European countries: printed [GTIN-13] 0667068XXXXXX or [GTIN-13] 0678149XXXXXX on the cover, which of course corresponds to [GTIN-12] 667068XXXXXX and [GTIN-12] 678149XXXXXX used in the US and Canada.

Now because DVD Profiler doesn't exactly behave, as I would a Database expect to behave, we have to deal with that accordingly. When a leading Zero is printed on the Cover it goes exactly this way in the database. And the other way around: probably all of the "Universum Film" entries with leading Zero are errors, that should be checked. I remember once correcting a few Universum profiles that I own, but there are far more in the online Db, where I'm certain that they don't have a [GTIN-13] starting with 07432 or 08869 printed on the cover...
