| Posted: | | | | I've contributed a title change: Going by the rules, I believe it should be changed to include the J. Carpenter.
Use the title from the front cover.
Never add distinguishing factors to the title (such as "Widescreen" or "Special Edition"). Use the Edition field for these. Check capitalization of the title. Do not include quotes if they surround the entire title. Include possessives if the front cover includes them, and if they are verifiably part of the title. If quotes surround the title in the credit block (generally on the back cover), check whether the possessive is within the quotes. In the absence of quotes to verify, check the font size used for the title on the front cover. Generally, possessives which use a significantly smaller font are not part of the title. Possessive examples: "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride", John Carpenter's "The Thing". In each case, the portion within quotes is the title. For titles which include periods, dashes, or other symbols, check the credit block on the back of the case if included. If not, check the film credits or opening sequence. Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*"
There is no possessive. It reads the same on the front cover, spine, back cover credit block, DVD opening menu screen and opening credits. If it was just the front cover, because of the font size I wouldn't make the change, but it is the same way in the opening credits. For those who have already voted thanks for the input. greenies to all.
side note: I don't like the full title either, but going by the rules. Same goes for Jackie Chan's, Tim Burton's, Mary Shelley's, American Pie presents. | | | Last edited: by ateo357 |

| Posted: | | | | I was under the impression that we got possessives from either the back credit box (if within the quotes) or the title screen of the film. In this case I think it should not be there, esp. as John Carpenter had nothing to do with this movie (getting a check for being a hands-off Producer doesn't count in my book). The first film which he directed should have the poss. (I think, I have a French dvd which doesn't ), sequels based on his work though is pushing the limits to me. So then it's down to fonts? While these have the same fonts, the covers I see are very small John Carpenter presents (which make no mistake, the studio is trying to sell off his name or it wouldn't be there!) and very large Vampires, and an in between Los Muertos. FWIW, I've only seen the US version, if talking of a different one please point that out so I can look at it. Sorry man, this possessive doesn't belong in font, quotes or spirit. | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

You have me confused because, on my copy, "John Carpenter Presents" is within quotes on the back credit block and, as I understand it, in the title screen of the film. Quote: Sorry man, this possessive doesn't belong in font, quotes or spirit. Font and spirit don't count and, since this is not a possessive...there is no apostrophe 's'...neither does the possessive rule. All that matters is what is on the case and "John Carpenter presents Vampires: Los Muertos" is on the front of the case, within quotes in the credit block on the back and on the title screen. In my opinion, that is the title. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Region 1 043396-078239 & region 1 043396-092679 Not sure which ones I was looking at, but yeah, these 2 unfortunatly should include John Carpenter from the credit block on back. This will probably skew the CLT numbers as it will be a different title in different regions, just like how the orginal Vampires is from locality to locality, but it's clear from the rules it should be entered that way. Thanks for the upc's for easy look-up. |
