Is there the ability to manually group individual DVDs into "boxets"?

This first came about when DVD profiler did not recognise a boxset bar code - but it did recognise the individual DVDs within the boxset so I used these to add to my collection

Now that they are in the collection I would like to group them into a boxet so that when I am browsing my collection I can see these discs as one thumbnail with the + sign in the top left, which I can then expand

I can also think of other times when I would want to manually group other entries

e.g. if there is a TV drama with 3 series' and I have the boxset of each series is it possible to group these together so I would click on a + sign to expand the series and then another + sign to expand the individual series boxsets (if this makes any kind of sense!  )

Thanks

When you edit a profile (by double-clicking on the entry in the list) you have a tab called "Box Set Contents". There you can assign profiles that are "children" of the current one.

As for your second request: You'll have to create a manual profile. Open the "Add DVD" dialog, switch to "Add by Title" and then unceck "Download from Invelos" in the lower left corner. Then you get a profile with a manual ID (your virtual series set). You can assign children to this as described above.
