| Posted: | | | | Hi I'm a new DVDProfiler registered user and I have a question. My wife and me have been using the free edition for a couple of years and we have different databases on differente PCs. I would like to know, now that i purchesed the program , how can I merge the 2 databases into a new one. Thanks |

The Database identifier for a profile is the UPC/EAN of a DVD plus the Locality of the profile (i.e. the country where you bought it). You cannot have two seperate entries where those two data are identical. So when you merge two databases and you happen to have an identical DVD in both of them, one of them is going to lose. Now you choose your master database or you create a new one, also via File->Open Database First you restore Backup 1 into it via File->Restore Database. BUT you choose "Restore Selected Profiles". Then you select "Select All". Then you do the same with Backup 2. Now you have a combined database with all your entries. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | wow !!! thanks for the quick answer. I also have another one. Is there a easy way to change the Collection Numbers of a one database so that they are not the same of the other database eg Add a letter to all the Collection Numbers so as to differentiate with the collection numbers of the other database to be merged |

| Posted: | | | | There's no easy way (i.e. I don't know if the BulkEdit plugin can do it) to move collection numbers from a range (say 1-1000) into another (say 10,001-11,000). If BulkEdit can't do it, you'll have to do it by hand.
When you have merged the two databases you can re-arrange the collection number via the DVD->Re-assign Collection Number menu. This will ensure that every number only exists once. But it will mix you numbers to one of the sorting critierias given in that menu.
What you could do is: create a Tag in each Database (e.g. "Slave" for DB1 and "Wife" for DB2) before merging. Then you can filter by that.
It all depends on what your objective is. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | When my wife opens the shared database, she cannot add a new profile but can only view or change existing ones. I was under the impression that clients are able to make additions just like me (server) Is there any workaround to this ? | | | Last edited: by koliniol |

| Posted: | | | | Go to menu "Tools -> Options -> Shared" and make sure "Allow Changes by Client" is flagged | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | I already checked this and made sure it's flagged. Does not work client can only View , or edit only "Personal Information" It cannot Edit other fields or Add new DVDs So the only solution is sharing the Database Folder and open the database directly from the other pc , but that means only one of the two pc can access the database at the same time which leads us to the same problem: I want to have full simultaneous access to the same database by more than one PC. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting koliniol: Quote: client can only View , or edit only "Personal Information" It cannot Edit other fields or Add new DVDs I'm afraid that is, as of know, the full extend of functionality of this part of DVD Profiler. Hopefully there is more to come in future versions. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | ok thanks So the only way of actually sharing a Database across the intranet is sharing the actual database folder. |
