As a result of the analysys of the DVD "Ships with Wings" about PAL (720x576) or NTSC (720x480) format, I found that: - Playing the movie with VLC Media Player, selecting the command "Tools/Codec Information/Codec Details", it reported that the video format was 720x576 (PAL); - Analysing the DVD with Nero Infotool, it reported the disc was 720x480 (NTSC); - Opening the IFO files with ifoedit, I found that actually only the menu was 720x480, the movie was 720x576, as reported by VLC Media Player. It turns out that Nero Infotool read only the menu format and then it states that this is the DVD format; this makes Nero Infotool unsuitable to decide if a DVD movie is NTSC or PAL. For this purpose, I suggest to use a DVD player giving the video format information while the movie is running (e.g. VLC Media Player, Power DVD). This Nero Infotool issue has been already found in other forums (see the last post here). Considering that the analyzed DVD belongs to "The Ealing Studios Collection", it is very probable that all DVDs of this collection are made in the same way (menu NTSC, movie PAL). For completeness: the DVD back cover indicated PAL format. |
