Me and my wife did have separate DVD Collections until we got married last year. Now I finally found some time to enter her collection in my DVD Profiler. But starting with the first dozen DVDs it revealed a big problem and my question number 1: How do I add a DVD which is already present in my collection? Since we are now married our collections will naturally merge. But the error message saying that a DVD is already in my collection does not help merging. I need to add it to my collection and later sell the dupes.
And I need to start adding her DVDs now because my time is limited. So I started to add her DVDs in a new collection. Which brings me to my question number 2: How do I merge my and her collection later on?

I hope somebody can help me soon. I tried to search the forums but I got either a timeout or not the answer i was looking for.

I see, I'm too late. 

Edit: One idea: You could change the locality of the DVDs of your wife to a different one. This will prevent from overwriting at the merge and you would also see the doubled ones.
Of course after the merge you have re-change the locality of the not doubled DVDs.

1) Use a TAG to mark those which have two copies (as Karsten said) or
2) Use the 'count as ' to show those dvds which you have two copies of (on the personalise menu)

I think 1) is the easier option - or you could use both methods

Yes, as I said before: a tag (or a 'count as') could do but i really need a different collection number for the dupe since i have a cupboard where these DVDs are placed in and need to find the exact place (collection number) of the DVD.
I have dedicated certain numbers (collection numbers) for different uses: i.e. collection numbers starting and above 4000 are for Blu-Rays and numbers from 1000 up to 1999 should be used for the collection of my wife. This way I have only one database and everything will be easy to find.
Since there seems to be no way I can have duplicates under different collection numbers in one database I will have to do with two different databases and experiment with the Backup/Restore method described above.
BTW: In my opinion a change of locality is not a good option. Thanks anyway.

If you just want to have the second collection number as a identifier for the place, you could also add the second collection number in field "Place"/"Ort". Could do it as a workaround.

Of course, you are absolutely right. It is only temporary. So the second database will be merged into the first one soon. And "Place / Ort" is a rather nice workaround. I like that. Thank you.

Thanks to everyone who answered my post. Every single one gave me a separate idea how to handle my problem. It is good to know that so many caring people are reading and answering posts in these -DVD Profiler forums. 

And ... DVD Profiler is a good piece of software. Some special needs like mine are not easy to overcome but I seem to have misunderstood the collection number as a "Place". Now I know how to handle it right.    But mass database queries like changing collection numbers or "Place" i.e. from 34 to 58 into 1034 to 1058 would be neat. And now my post is in the wrong forum. The right one would be DVD Profiler/Feature Requests.

and I've been reminded..

and you could add the 2nd copy of a dvd using it's disc Id.

so copy 1 - using UPC
    copy 2 - using disc ID
