The latest release, 3.7, installed without any issues, but when I start it, the filling in of the eye stops halfway into the first letter D (of DVD Profiler above the eye).

Killed it.  Restarted and it then hung at updating the database.

Killed it.  Ran the repair database.  Oh Sh!t Batman, there are tons of records being deleted, 28 to be exact, as well as anything that went along with those records.

After I got past that and finally got DVDP to start, I restored the backup (yes Virginia, it was the backup I did right before I installed 3.7).

What caused the corruption?  DVDP 3.6 never crashed on me.  There have no indications of errors.

Is the backup corrupt?  If I run the repair program again, will DVDP fix the screwed up records on the next update?

When DVD Pro isn't shut down properly, (with a blue screen, or the app had to be killed because it was hanging), it can cause database corruption.

Running a database repair will then delete some or quite a few database records. I don't what exactly is deleted, but I never lost any data.

So if your backup contains those errors, running the repair will make the same corrections, but the chance data will be lost is very slim.

On the first start, the program pauses (about the first D above the eye), because it is adapting some records to the new format.
This can take quite some time for a large database. Just how impatient were you?

No BSoD, But it is possible that I had DVDP running when the system froze.  But that was a while ago.  I'll rerun the repair.

It would be nice for the user to be given some kind of indication that such a conversion was taking place, like a little popup that says: converting database

The lack of any indication that the program is still running, especially because it is running under WindBlows, always leads one to believe that there is something wrong.

After I repeaired the database and started again, I did get an update popup.  Seems that DVDP doesn't to update a corrupted database.

Many multitudes of minutes.  The task manager even said the program was not responding, so I killed it.

The rebuild did not remove any records this time.  88 crew members and 144 actors (unused) were removed.  This is the same database that the new 3.7 hung with.  Killing it probably is what resulted in the corrupted database.

As noted, once I got DVDP started, it had no trouble restoring the backup.  The repair found no errors.

No idea what what wrong.

Yes.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I hope that English is not your native language.

If not, here are the correct spellings for the wrong spellings:

load (not lode)
kicked (not kickt)
hurt (not hert)
done (not dun)

The forum software underlines words that are not spelled correctly.

As for your problem, kill DVDP with the task manager, run the database rebuild program and then restart DVDP.

I was going to open a new 3d for the same problem... it does not make the update of the database from the 3.6 to the 3.7...

I just downloaded 3.7 it gets to setup. I have checked normal and every combination of diagnostic. It shows the updating box and freezes without responding. Windows does a check and just closes the program.

I'm having the same problem when I upgraded from 3.6 to 3.7.  Is there any solution since I can't do a database repair.  It just hangs at 0% upgrading database (30 minutes or more) -  in 3.6 a database compact only took 10 minutes

The repair utility is accessible from the start menu.  Or, you can download the 3.7.1 beta which adds (among other things) an automatic repair in this scenario.  Run it once and if it fails to start, just close it and run it again - it will do the repair.
