Transferring photos from one machine to another |

Right, I've had DVDProfiler for a couple of years now. On my laptop I have literally thousands of cast and crew photos, which has taken me a hell of a long time to compile. Now, I'm getting a new laptop, so what I want to know is this. When I install Profiler on the new machine and sync with my online collection, obviously all the info will copy but not the photos. I know that those images aren't saved as individual files on the computer, so where exactly are they saved, and more importantly, is there some way I can do a copy and cast on the relevant files to bring the photos across to the new system?
Does that make sense?

| | Posted: | | | | Just read closer, no the photos aren't saved in the online database, but your personal database. You'll need to back up your personal database (in the file menu) and do a full backup. (You can do back-ups which have a smaller file size without the photos, too). But when you save it, either email the file to yourself or save on a portable drive of some sort and when you get your new laptop, download the program again and one of the options will be to import your database.

| | Posted: | | | | The photos (we typically call them "headshots" here for future reference if you have to search again) are a part of your collection database just like all other parts.
Instead of being concerned about just the headshots, you could backup your entire collection (headshots included) and transfer it to the new computer. Though no more complicated, it makes more sense. Go to:
File -> Backup Database
In the new window, choose your save method, then under Options, choose "Custom Backup."
In the checkboxes below that, deselect "include cover scans." (Cover scans take up a LOT of space, and unless you have some custom ones that you have added which aren't in the database, they can all be restored from the database later. If you do not mind the extra filesize, you can choose "Full Backup" instead as LJG suggests.)
Click "OK."
A backup will be performed (this may take a while), creating a single file containing all of your information including your headshots. Just transfer this file to the new computer and go to:
File -> Restore Database , select the file you just transferred and click Next.
in the new window use the "Restore All Profiles" option (don't worry about the rest), and click "OK".
After the data has been restored, you can go to:
Online -> Refresh All Images which should pull the images from the database.
I believe that backing up only the headshots is roughly the same procedure (but with a few more options of what not to select) which is why I described this option.
