| Posted: | | | | Hi, I just got this excellent software the other day and have been enjoying building my collection, entering the barcodes etc and I find it particularly nice to be able to give back by scanning missing covers or entering new profiles for dvds not on file. Sometimes though I wonder why I bother, especially after getting a snotty remark from someone about a scan I contributed being slightly lopsided and needing cropping, it looks fine and a vast improvement on the tiny, blurred one on file. Why do people act so ungraciously, I dont mind constructive feedback but this idiot didnt even say thanks, I suppose its the way of the world, for every 100 giving and nice users on here there will be one idiot who just takes and complains. |

At times, putting information into the database as a whole can be a balancing act between your new information and information that has changed or was accepted with missed errors in the past.
For instance, you may update the cast information for a name that was noticeable to you, but when you submit it you receive several "No" votes because of data in the same section that should have also been fixed. So despite your work, your submission is rejected in favor of it being more important to have all changes made at once instead of part accepted and part missed.
Despite the negativity that a few people may push in your face, all submissions (in particular cover scans, in my opinion) are appreciated. Don't give up; just ask questions if the same mistakes keep being noted. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | Ditto with Blair and VirusPil. I understand that it can be frustrating being met with uncalled for hostility or ungratefulness. There are those individual(s) here, unfortunately, but from my experience in contributions during MANY years, they are very rare. So, please keep on contributing as before and try to think that you are doing that for the benefit of this nice and friendly majority here, instead of that annoying sourgrape. Also, we have had people here trying to get fawlty info / wrong cover versions etc. into the online database for purpose (or at least voting against contributions trying to correct those). Some people might therefore be more paranoid even towards contributions that, even if not perfectly flawless in every possible way, were at least made with good intentions. Doesn't excuse bad behavior of course, but might sometimes explain it somewhat. Anyway, welcome among contributors - never too many of us | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. | Posted: | | | | It's also worth remembering that the vote comment field is quite small, so people try to be as to the point as possible. Unfortunately it can come across as rude sometimes. Although you are right - some voters are rude! |

| Posted: | | | | I find myself only contributing DVDs that I know some particular users don't have, just so I don't have to put up with their negativity. And, ironically, I enjoy contributing those same DVDs because I know and respect the people that I know do have them. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | Now that you are entering the minefield known as "Contributions", here's a few pointers.
1. Don't get offended if someone votes NO. 2. If someone voted NO, take their comment seriously. If that means editing and resubmitting, so be it. 3. If you don't agree with their NO, don't red flag them (unless they're frackin' rude). Talk to them about it via PM. 4. Read any comments in the YES votes. Sometimes they are small problems mentioned here which can be corrected via resubmitting or a subsequent update. 5. Don't get offended if someone votes NO. 6. Check the vote response on your contributions frequently for a few days after submitting. If there's any serious issues, you'll know about them fast and can correct them. 7. If you scan covers, dust your scanner first. If you have a photo editor, clean up your scans to remove dust, etc.
And finally:
8. Don't get offended if someone votes NO. |

| Posted: | | | | Wasn't there some sort of rule of conduct about not getting offended if someone votes no that we keep forgetting to mention? | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

Sometimes users don't want to sound rude, but it sounds wrong because of the limited field length. |

| Posted: | | | | There is another issue.
If a person is going through a number of contributions, it may not be a matter of rudeness, as much as being direct and moving on.
Then again maybe not. Don't take anything personally. |

Then again maybe not. Don't take anything personally. I too remember first contributing, and i took no votes VERY personal. some users think they know everything and come across being snotty and rude. i even think CharlieM and I had issues but really most people DO try to be helpful. i try to now get along with everyone on here. Although i still hate when someone contributes a scan when the existing one isnt even bad. Lately i am quite lazy and i am hoping someone has done all the work when i add a new dvd!! |
