| Posted: | | | | In the end credits of each episode there are listed as follow Fawlty Towers by John Cleese and Connie Booth.
Should they be credited as Created by under writing, or something else? | | | "What's God?" "You know when you want something really bad and you wish for it?, God's the guy that ignores you" -The Island, Steve Buscemi | | | Last edited: by bentyman |

| Posted: | | | | Yes, just as printed. FT by JC and CB, nothing written by or story by, but I would go for Created by on this one, unless someone else have another idea. | | | "What's God?" | Posted: | | | | Quoting bentyman: Quote: Should they be credited as Created by under writing, or something else? Yes. I've got about three dozen of these - the "by" credit seems to be used quite a few times in mostly U.K. productions, even nowadays (the latest in my collection is actually from 2010). They are indeed the "writers". What I'm having the most trouble with is what to enter as a custom crew role in my database: if I click on the person's name to see his credits, just plain "By" really doesn't tell me anything, especially since the credits window only shows the custom role I've entered, not the category I put it under. That's fine, of course, but it does mean that just entering "By" doesn't work for me... As such, this may very well be the one occasion where I deviate from "as credited" - good thing that custom crew roles are local-only. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I would probably go for Writer since I believe that Created By should be reserved for Created By and nothing else, but the rules doesn't really tell me anything. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | After reading on the back-cover it says: Manus(script) by John Cleese and Connie Booth so it would be Written by then... | | | "What's God?" "You know when you want something really bad and you wish for it?, God's the guy that ignores you" -The Island, Steve Buscemi |

| Posted: | | | | Normally "created by" works as an additional credit, if somebody wrote the screenplay and/or the story, but the idea for the film/series is by somebody else. Obviously Cleese and Booth invented and wrote the whole thing. Because "written by" includes things like "created by" if no other person is credited as Creator, I would suggest to submit them as writers. Otherwise it looks as if the writer's credit is missing. |
