| Posted: | | | | I usually add DVDs via my laptop at home and then upload to the website. I have 557 titles uploaded. I can access my collection (via www.invelos.com) from my pc at work but it's just the webpage format and doesn't allow you to do anything or possibly add a DVD from there. So I have downloaded the most recent 3.6.1 onto my pc at work and then attempted to synchronize to 'download' from the online collection to my work pc so that I have my collection on two pc/laptops. I have checked parental controls etc. and I have done the onlinelist.dod thing too and then restarted DVD profiler and I think I've done everything that has previously been advised for troubleshooting but I still only get 117 titles downloading. When I open DVD Profiler; and click 'DVD Profiler Online' and do the sign in thing and it takes me to a window which offers either 'upload' or 'download' and I click 'download' and 'next'; it then open a page that has the local site (117) and online site (557) and when I click next it says - access violation at address 004041FC in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Read of address 851EB84A ... any ideas??? |

| Posted: | | | | The online collection cannot be downloaded via "synchronize", this tool is exclusively for the program DVDProfiler Mobile. For synchronizing remote computers you need to enable the new sharing feature via "Tools -> Options -> Shared". Since this in the default settings requires an always on PC (in your case: laptop), I recommend to move your database to a NAS (Network Attached Storage (-> external HDD with Ethernet support)) and configure the access to this on your PC at work. This might require Admin rights and is possibly not allowed by your company. But since you seem to be allowed to install private software, this shouldn't be a problem.
For just downloading your online collection choose DVDProfiler menu "Online -> DVDProfiler Online..." click yourself through the questions and choose "Download". This will download your Online collection from Invelos, but you will lose your custom images and (probably (since I'm not sure of that)) other personal data. So the recommended way would be the first. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | You can "syncronize" you collection by downloading it from the web. I've done it for years now (since the personal information was added to the upload ). No, you can't do it through the Mobile Syncronize button but you can go to the web and download your account, which is what lynnharvey is doing. Once you make the changes upload it again then download it at the other end. The only way this doesn't work is if you use your own scans. And the download is fast too as you only download any changed or new profiles. @ lynnharvey - Is there any firewall or virus protection programs running? You don't say in your post. If so that may be the cause of the problem. | | | Last edited: by lyonsden5 |

| Posted: | | | | Great replies already given (I'm sure they'll work!) but I was still under the impression that the 'Dowload' from your online was not the approved manner and what you should do is backup your collection on one PC, transfer the backup to the other PC and do a restore.
If that's too big (and you're not too bothered about/don't use your own images) when you do the backup just tell it not to backup the cover images/gallery photos and that should bring it down to a mangeable (emailable) size; that's what I do with over 3000 titles in my Db. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | Dear lyonsden5 I don't know is the short answer ... sorry if I gave the impression that I knew what I was talking about Firewall ... how do I know ... I reckon (since I working in a University) that we probably do have all the usual safe guards, does this mean that I can't download my stuff to my work pc? | | | Last edited: by lynneharvey |

| Posted: | | | | Dear Voltaire53 Sorry ... I'm not computer minded ... at all! When making the back up - do I do this via a USB key? Is that an insanely stupid questions |

I'm sure they have safeguards in place to keep from downloading malicious content onto their servers. If there is an IT person you could check with him or her. As far as the backup yes, you can do it straight to a usb key. You can also backup to your computer hard drive and then copy that file to the usb key, which may be faster. In a much older version you would loose the personal data but it is now stored online with the rest of your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | can almost guarantee the 'access violation at address 004041FC in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Read of address 851EB84A ... ' means your workplace has 'things in place' on the network to prevent '.exe' type programs from running or operating .. i.e. Firewalls /and or virus protection.. You can upload from home but not at work? It's their workplace .. Besides isn't it better to upload at home and view at work.. You are supposed to be working.. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Is that an insanely stupid questions Nope; very fair question since the program does have an option to backup to Removable Drive... however some people have had 'issues' with this and I never use it. Simply do: File -> Backup Database in the window make sure the Specific Location radio button is selected and Browse to any folder you want to backup to (preferably somewhere in My Documents as more recent Windows versions sometimes don't like you putting things elsewhere for security reasons). You can also use this to set whatever filename you like for the backup but you shouldn't need to - the default "backup.dpb" is fine. At this point either select Full Backup and OK or Custom Backup, uncheck"include cover scans" and any other bits you don't need (to make the backup a lot smaller) and then OK. this will create the backup in the folder you specified. This file can then either be put on a memory stick and copied onto the other PC's hard drive that way or emailed to to the other PC as an attachment and then copied from the email onto the hard drive. Then it just a matter on the new PC of File->Restore Backup... and browsing to where you put the backup.dpb file then Next and OK (the defaults will tell this backup to overwrite the old data you have) Job done Note that in future both Backup and Restore will remember where you put the backup file (and what it was called) so you won't need to browse each time so long as you use the same folders. | Posted: | | | | thank you thank you thank you Oh, and we admin staff 'sometimes' work too ... it's just that because we're here so early/late working just to keep up with the backlog that when you get a 5-minute break (you know, to throw that cup of coffee down your throat), you just might want to add the DVD (that you've had to have delivered to work address, cause you're never at home ...) to your collection ... buy hey, all things considered, it might be best to wait until I'm home ... |
