It looks like I have a 'hidden' DVD. I moved all dvd's to a new Collection Category. The list is empty, but it still shows there is one dvd around. When I look into the XML file I see an entry with no title. I removed it from there, but now wonder if it's possible to import the file.

Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

It is, with the BulkEdit plugin.
But I would rather:
0) make a backup
1) try a database repair
2) try restoring the the db from the backup to a NEW database.

Thanks. Trying this now. If it is not working I'll try the BulkEdit plugin.

3) if the ghost reappears even after the backup, try restoring your collection in two halves, then cut the half that has the ghost in half again and so on until you finally come down to the culprit.

Just curious, since this is one of the scenarios where I hoped BulkEdit would be useful, is it so complicated or some other issue that would make one rather do all that work instead of simply using the plugin?  Maybe there is something I could/should do to fix the issue?    Thanks for your feedback.

But maybe you are just saying that it would give a better feeling if you can make DVDP "heal itself" instead of using another program. If so, I think I agree with that idea ...

Yes, that sums it up pretty good

Well, first problem is that I actually never tried this (maybe I'll do it on my virtual machine where I run the beta) so I stick to what I know, pure Angst of the unknown
And, as I don't know the program, I don't know what it does with my really valuable data, the viewing history and all the other personal stuff.

Ok, that's fine. That is anyone's personal decision. But I was afraid that you found some kind of problem, and because of your high respect and reputation, that would be a disaster for me.

If you do, make sure that the single <DVD></DVD> profile is wrapped inside a <Collection></Collection> element.

Thanks. I'm trying to work with it right now. I'm sure I can fix it with the great plugin you made.

Ok, but the only thing I'm looking for is your success right now. I agree with Mithi that if the problem is a broken or sick database, we are not expecting BulkEdit to help with that - only with helping to recover the mysterious profile. Just curious, if you can see the XML, why not just delete the profile, re-enter the UPC? You can still use BulkEdit at any time later to pull in personal information, such as Notes, loan events, watched events, purchase info, etc. But I do agree that the first priority is getting the database healed.

All the data-fields within the profile are empty.

The database seems to be good. Ran a database repair earlier and that came out clean.

Ok, good. Seem like import wouldn't have made much sense anyway, since there was no data!

While updating my Database Query plugin, I happened to notice I had a profile like that that wasn't appearing in any collection (it literally had no Collection Type assigned).  So I added a feature to look for this and a method to fix them.

Should be out soon if you're still having the problem.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.
