| Posted: | | | | Hello all, Can DVD Profiler be loaded onto Windows Home Server? I have a few PCs in the house and it would be great to access my database from any pc on the network. Thanks Niall |

| Posted: | | | | The database: yes. The program: no. At least not if you're trying to run it in several instances at once. But this is no problem, since the DVDProfiler license allows you to install the program on as many machines as you need. For multi access to the database it is recommended to wait for ver. 3.6 (available as beta in the "Downloads"-section) | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Here are some tips from my own experience with WHS (I have two, one I built myself). For maximum reliability, I would not put files that are dynamically updated and possibly open for long periods onto WHS shares. You can get file conflicts resulting from open files, and other issues. What I do for this type of thing is define at least one drive on the WHS as a "backup drive". This essentially exempts that drive from the Shares files processing, but still gives some semblance of managing the resource. You see this drive as simply a drive letter on the server, which can be shared the same way as on any Windows system. Use that drive for the DVDP folders. Then make a little batch script that copies those folders to a shared folder for backup purposes. Setup a scheduled task (Contol Panel) that runs the script on whatever schedule you like.
Then you will have a totally isolated run-time copy of the database and the backups you create, plus an automated backup to the WHS, with its robust recovery and folder duplication options.
The disadvantage of keeping your databases on the WHS itself is the incremental recovery process that WHS does on your networked PCs is not available. One way around this is to use the same scheduled task to copy the database to a folder on any one of your PCs that is backed up to the WHS. Then you will get the ability to recover the database from any given incremental PC backup. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | That reminds me that I need to get that lincense key I wanted to buy several months ago. | | | Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer. |
