| | Posted: | | | | The Audioholics website has exposed the luxury brand Lexicon for releasing a blu-ray player which turns out to be just the standard Oppo BDP-83, chassis and all, shoved inside an aluminium Lexicon wrapper - and then charging $3500 for it instead of Oppo's $500. While Lexicon claims to have made improvements, there is no evidence to support that claim at all. Quite the contrary: while Oppo provides updates to its firmware on a regular basis, there are no updates for the Lexicon. And while Oppo sells a Special Edition of its player with upgraded D/A conversion for $899, Lexicon could not be bothered to at least stick that one inside their case. Which is why some are now referring to the brand as LexiCON. So if any of you have $3000 to spare for a nice aluminium case on an Oppo with outdated firmware, you know where to go...  |

I don't know that LexiCON actually broke any laws by definition but according to the article they have certainly, misrepresented their product. If so, LexiCON deserves to loose it all for this.

KM Both OUGHT to have failed on audio, but Oppo did not submit its player. As far as video is concerned: nobody knows what the THX standards are, so who knows? Makes the THX certification meaningless anyway. BTW all references to THX certification seem to have been pulled now. I wonder why... @ Dan: Glad you liked the story. Personally I found this shot the best of them all, as it shows what an amateurish job they did when they threw the Oppo inside their case.
