Hi, I have been using DVD Profiler off and on for a number of years now but have only recently (last 18 months or so) started to seriously collect movies. I've used several of the free/open source versions but none have impressed me as much as DVD Profiler.

My question is this: Can I get DVD Profiler to number my boxed sets correctly? At the moment it seems to number my collection +1 for each boxed set. ie, if I have a collection of 20 DVDs and add a boxed trilogy I should have a collection totalling 23 but I don't, I have 24.

Can anyone help?

You can assign a collection number "none" to a box set profile (select the profile, press CTRL-P).

From 3.6 on (currently in early beta version state) you also can alter the way a collection item is counted.

Thats also my idea. But this just mentions the numbering of your collection. The total amount of DVDs isn't mentioned by this. It will always be +1 more per box set.

Late to the game, but.... I just go in and manually delete the collection number for the parent profile of the box set.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

There is also another way to do it that a lot of us use.

You can set it up as follows:
Example #1: If the individual discs in the set each have their own keep case, ie. they are a single title on one disk that has its own UPC, you can number that title, and any others, while leaving the box set cover unnumbered.

Example #2: If the discs in the set are in a digipack, and do NOT have individual UPCs, number the box set cover which has the UPC, but do not number the discs as above.

You can accomplish both ways in the same numbering scheme:  When adding a new title to your database, if the box set is set up as in #1, don't number the outer box set cover by unchecking the box in the profile.  If the set is like #2, leave the box checked.

Now, when you add the new titles to your database, and renumber your collection, check the buttons for "Reassign All Collection Numbers" in the top left corner, and "Title" in the lower right corner and hit Enter.  That will put everything in proper order, with all the both sets numbered based on how they are set up as a box set.

Ah right i thought i was doing something wrong.

i set the collection number as 'none' but still couldn't work out why the total dvd number increased +1 per box-set.

So until v3.6 comes out you cant actually remove the way a box-set is counted as 1 dvd, is that correct?

What the programme calls "total dvd number" is actually the number of profiles - which is a different animal altogether. Hence the discrepancy.
