| Posted: | | | | We're in the process of migrating to a new upgraded server. The new server is pretty substantially higher powered than the current one, and will allow us room to grow and to support upcoming products.
The initial migration does not affect the site as we bring the bulk of the data across. When this is finished, we'll complete some testing (we're moving up in versions of Windows and SQL server as well), and then we'll have a downtime to perform the last data sync.
This downtime will occur sometime this week, depending on the results of testing and whether further code changes are required. I expect it will take about three hours. I'll update this thread as we get closer.
For those interested, the specs on the new box are: - Dell 1333 FSB Dual Xeon PowerEdge R710 - Dell 9G Drive Controller - SAS/SATA - 2x Intel Xeon 5530 2.4 GHz Quad Core Processors - 12 GB RAM - 146 GB 10K RPM SCSI/SAS HDD - 300 GB 15K RPM SCSI/SAS HDD - 300 GB 15K RPM SCSI/SAS HDD - 300 GB 10K RPM SCSI/SAS HDD
Update: Server downtime planned for this Sunday evening, 9:00 PM CST, and is expected to last 2-3 hours. The domain transfer will also start at that time. Until propagation around the Internet finishes, the old site will redirect to the new one, but some program functionality will be affected. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. The 7200 (two hours) now is a bit high when you know you are changing records. | | | |

| Posted: | | | | Just out of curiosity, how come so strange disk setup? Normally if you set up a SQL server correctly (if the disk space isn't taken from SAN system) you set system on RAID1 and separate disks RAID10 for database, transaction logs and temps, each on their own partition. |

This is strongly depending on the setup (and the personal need for security), but when seeing the HDD configuration my first guess was RAID6 (might be RAID3 too). A RAID 10 is not recommended for onlineservices (downtime is too long if a fault occurs).
