| Posted: | | | | I've noticed in a couple shows you have cast members playing different characters for various reasons. Now, I'm not talking about characters going undercover or pretending to be someone else because in those cases, they're still that character, but say someone has a memory infusion and takes on the personality of another character, could he/she be credited as that character? For instance, on Smallville, one of the episodes Lois Lane's body is possessed by Faora and about half the episode Erica Durance plays Lois and the other half, plays Faora, so could she be credited as Lois Lane / Faora? There are other cases like this (Allison Mack playing Chloe and Brainiac). In each they play distinguishably different characters for a good amount of time during that episode. There are other TV shows that do this but I was wondering what your thoughts are generally speaking, not just in the case of Smallville... Just curious. |

| Posted: | | | | And the credit says...what exactly. What goes on in the show is probably irrelevant. What does the Credit say?
If it says Lois Lane then so be it. If it says Lois Lane/Erica...FINE. If it says nothing then per the Rules uou are on your own.
It's not all that hard, just follow what the Rules say to do, then follow the data that the Rules tell you to follow, anything else is completely and totally irrelevant. From your description thus far it sounds to me like you are interprteing data...not based on credits...but based on show content and unless there are no credited character names , then show content is not relevant.

| Posted: | | | | My guess is these are main stars so, as with most TV series, they do not have a credited role. Not that it matters for me. Unless they are playing a different character...and I mean a different character, not just 'possessed' by another character...I wouldn't enter the alternate role. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Skip No character names in the credits, in my examples these are main actors in the opening credits (as Unicus said). And I only brought this up as a general discussion, not going to submit it (not even sure if I'll even take the time to do this profile anyway). Just something I've thought of recently and it's not entirely clear by the rules in the case when character names are not in the TV credits. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | Sure it is, my friend. First of remember that the The TV Rules are nor replacements of the Basic rules in any way. They are clarifications of the differences in the dealing with of the data...nothing more. The basic rules spelll it out for us. You said there is no credit for xxx xxxxxx as Lois Lane, there is just a credit for xxxx xxxxx. Under this scenario clearly this Rule would apply "If an actor is credited by name but does not have an associated role, you may use the film itself, or another source to identify the role. However, mass copy from a third party commercial database which violates their stated usage license is not allowed. In each case, list Actor’s names and roles (when given) exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited." It sounds to me like you are on your own. Skip Um, ok? So in that case I can use the episode in question (when doing credits for each episode) because, in my example, Erica Durance is playing Lois Lane and then Faora (and both characters are named in the episode)... Ditto for Allison Mack playing Chloe and Brainiac, both are named in that particular episode. And I will say it again, I am not going to submit it, I just started this as a basic discussion since I've seen this come up in other TV shows. So I'm not trying to push my ways on the database. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | Sounds perfectly fine to me, pal. Tjhe Rules allow it and they also don't say you have to.

Skip Well, thanks... pal. Again, not going to submit it. I already have done a couple TV sets and it just takes too long. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | It's complicated. I don't do it for posessions and the such. I do it however for body switches (Xena/Callisto, Buffy/Faith, Clark Kent/Lionel Luthor). | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online
