The HDMI 1.4 specifications have just come out, and although the details have been essentially known for some time, it's nice to get official confirmation.
Among the highlights of the 1.4 spec: ethernet over HDMI for networking purposes, simultenuos 1080p streams for future 3D support, an audio return channel and 4k x 2k resolution. One of the more controversial aspects of the standard is a new micro connector which will be incompatible with existing ports.

As someone who works in the retail side of the industry... I'm very disappointed with the different variety available... they all should just do everything... simple...

Otherwise known as "planned obsolescence".

Gotta say that the specs sound quite comprehensive, though...at least for today!

I'm sure companies are already planning an adapter.

I don't think an adapter will be necessary. It sounds basically like USB. Devices will eb backward and forward compatible. You just can't use the 1.4 features unless both devices and the cable support them. The mini connectors are optional and are meant to be used on small devices where you don't want the port to take up a whole side of the device. Receivers and TVs will continue using the same connectors they always have.
