| Posted: | | | | Version 3.0 was a very GOOD pease of SW. And a lot of developers was working to adding new functions using the PLUG IN technique of 3.0.
Bt this was a short paradise.
The nightmare starts with Version 3.5 .
1.) The online databsae was changed without a chance for the users to use the old GOOD version 3.0. =====> IN FACT: EVERYBODY MUST UPDATE to 3.5x. 2.) A lot of very helpful PLUG INS are working with 3.5 with ERROR or UNEXPECTED RESULTs. 3.) The PLUG IN SECTION is still a hidden THING on the WEB SITE (only for experts? 4.) Some developer of PLUG INS say to me that a PLUG IN DEVELOPER TOOL is needed to update all the usfil tools.
Since the release of 3.5x also additional "BUGS" in the product.
"A lot of ACCESS VIOLATION" - OUT OF MEMORY and (unbelievable) the good old death of the screen. The speed is really down. The XML Format is comlitly ouside of all specification (secially the Charactercode and the syntax. In 3.0 the anouncemnt was "really unlimited number of Titles" annoced - V3.5 get in trouble witrh databases over 6.000. My database have more 23.000 (it was a lot of work to split it down - and it is still a time consuming work to use all this Parts. And the good old missunderstanding about UPC /EAN is still in the product. Can someone tell me why a lot of EANs (Europe or Eurpe / USA) are double and more times in the online database? THE DVD is allways the same! maybe the overview can be written in a nationallanguage.
Questions:
is someone working to fix this nightmare? Will someone clean the online DB (UPC/EAN) and DELETE the nonsens from it.
WHEN the willing developers can START WORKING ON THE PLUG INS? |

| Posted: | | | | Your frustrations are shared by many, I'm sure. Here is my perspective and some recent conclusions:
(1) In response to User requests (demands?), Ken undertook a MASSIVE update. The current release is clearly less stable than the last. But even a multi-billion dollar company (guess who) can't avoid those kinds of issues. Ever heard of Vista?
(2) Many of us ignored Ken's advice to not try and run both the Beta and Production versions on the same machine. All heck broke loose. He warned us, but I, and many others did not listen. (3) Recently, after a slew of wierd errors, I bit the bullet, and after backing up everything (folders and database), I completely uninstalled DVD Profiler, including all registry entries, rebooted, re-installed, restored my last backup, and re-registered. All the plugins got loaded twice. I disabled the duplicates and restarted Profiler. All good. Then I reloaded the online database and refreshed updated profiles. Now, happily, a couple of wierd errors that I was trying to resolve in one of my plugins has not happened the last couple of times I tested, so I might be releasing the update soon.
All this is to say, that I believe some of what has been going on to all of us, has happened as an unexpected consequence of conflicts in the registry and database during the transistion from 3.1.x to 3.5.x. Ken predicted that it would be an issue. Perhaps even he did not realize all the implications. I say, have patience. Do a careful cleanup of your own house. See what happens.

| Posted: | | | | Thanks mediadog for your help.
but before I go to fingerpoint to someone I always clean my own house. Before I was writeing I have done the following
I have installed a NEW PC starting wth Xp installatio and SP1 -3.
then I instaled V3.5 (official Release) Then I installed my Backup Database (Backup from 3.1) Then I have done the onlie Update for updated profiles Than I installed the BULKEDIT and CSV Export Plugin. All my negative Resultes are on this test PC.
I Have it also on my "production machine" No Difference I can see.
All the warning to use the "Beta" from Ken was a good will message. BUT The Onlne database was chanced . Nobody can't update profiles or download profiles since mittle of november 2008. In fact: Everybody must update to the beta or to 3.51. From 3.51 I have also 2 Bulid Numbers.
I thing now that I am doing me very hard to hold all my databases up to date. This is a very time consuming action.
In summer 2008 with the first Plug Ins I was thinkin that this strategie will bring more help to Ken. And will bring more "special function" to me.
I fact DVD profiler is still the "Number One" in this type of SW. With the Start of Invelos Ken has annoced that the Things will come better.
3.1 was really better!
And 3.5 now remember me the good old Intervocative situation.
AND SOMETIMES I HAVE THE FEELING that users must rememer Ken to hold the quality of 3.1 also to all the new Versions. That was the reason for me to writes something.
Specially the Plug In technique is the real Help. For Ken and for the users.
And I know that a lot of questions demands and more are on your desk (and on other desks).
Your Bulkedit is for me the missing Fuctionallity to 1.) compare Movie Collectorz (this can edit a bulk off Titles in one step) with DVDpro 2.) close the use of Movie Collectorz (XML Bridge to DVD pro) 3.) import from other collections I have (mySQL) via CSV
To make this Things happens:
You need the Toolkit to contine your development I need a stable version to handle all my Titles in ONE PLACE with ONE PRODUCT.

Are you really complaining about the fact that Ken evolves DVD Profiler? Changes to the database ARE neccessary, for example the addition in 3.5.0 to enter more than 8 audio tracks. For DVDs 8 audio tracks were the maximum allowed by the specifications of a video DVD, but since there are now blu-rays out there with 10 or more audio tracks a change in the database system was inevitable. In no way 3.1 was better than the actual version, just read the extensive release notes for 3.1 --> 3.1.1 --> 3.5.0 --> 3.5.1 http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/ReleaseNotes.aspx?view=history | | | Last edited: by SpaceFreakMicha |

In short, yes, assuming you are referring to the forum for plug-in developers. The text that goes along with the forum makes it clear who's allowed to access it and how to do so. |

Wow, thanks for that detailed reply. It is really much more helpful when people take the time to increase understanding. So I see better now what you mean. In terms of BulkEdit, when you get some time, could you send me a PM with some more details of the errors you are getting, or exactly what is missing from those three things? (Edit: No, that's OK, I found it!!! You did exactly that aleady, and I forgot. , sorry). Thanks again for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. | | | Thanks for your support.
