| Posted: | | | | Hi all, I need some help naming the kitten in the avatar. Her registered name is Valinor Manwe's Vision. I was originally told that she was a male so came up with some names for a male kitty bu tnow need female names. I thought of Zuleika which means "the Fair one" but I am not sure. She is a Somali and will be arriving in my home on 9th April. She is around 10 weeks old. | | | <---------Mithrandir, Laverne and Shirley Caroline |

I found a couple of links talking about good Somali names: http://www.somaliaonline.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=009770;p=0 http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/category-somali-names.html | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | She's beautiful! I found something about Valinor. Sounds mystic. Maybe you find a good name in the J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. On a 2nd thought - Zuleika would fit! | | | Thorsten |

| Posted: | | | | Let me give you a reply which will be no help whatsoever.
My mother enjoyed giving her pets which would easily be used by people: Suzy, Marvin, George, etc. She thought it was a hoot if a pet acted or looked like someone she knew, or, in the case that she named a pet after no one in particular, when she met someone who shared the name of a current or former pet. Laughs abound!
Her mother, on the other hand, hated this... she objected to finding either similarities or diffences between humans and animals, and she would deliberately give her pets names she was certain no (or very few) humans would have: Squeaky, Boo, Spot (for a striped cat), Stripe (for a spotted one), etc.
I tried naming new pets with the same name as someone I disliked (especially if I no longer know the person), hoping that the pet will bring positive feelings to the name. Unfortunately, I often put my old attitude onto the new pet...
How about Val? | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | Earlier today, I looked up names of "cat" translated into different languages that didn't need unicode for a shelter I volunteer for.
Albanian: Macja Catalan: Gat Estonian: Kass Filipino: Pusa French: Chat Hungarian: Macska Indonesian: Kucing Italian: Gatto Maltese: Qattus Norwegian/Swedish: Katt Polish: Kot |

No clue what it means to be honest. My uncle used to raise Malamute dogs and one was named that. I think it's perhaps either a Russian or Eskimo name, but I'm not sure. | | | Corey |
