| Posted: | | | | It always amazes me how little talk about movies there is on this site. I was wondering if people would like to start creating guides to various:
Themes Adaptations Directors Actors etc.
I think it would be a great chance to bring together people with similar tastes, and introduce people to titles they may have never heard of or considered purchasing. It may even introduce people to themes that they didn't even realise existed!
From experience (my own and that of others) elsewhere, it would be important to keep each list fairly tightly defined. For example, on another forum I visit it was decided that "Zombie movies" produced a vast quantity of movies, so a topic for "Italian Zombie Films" was created. That list was still rather big. Similarly, "Fairytales" is obscenely big, and needs to be done on a per-tale basis.
People could respond to each thread with additional suggestions. It would also be cool to see people suggest which version is the best release for a given title (perhaps with best SD release and best HD release where applicable). I think it would make a great resource.
What do people think of this idea? Does someone want to start one right away? | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

| Posted: | | | | Great idea! It would be good if a new forum topic of 'Film Discussion' was created, as there would be so many genres of film as well as directors and actors that we could discuss. In my opinion this would be much better than using the highly ambiguous 'DVD Profiler Online' Topic, which can cover almost anything. Plus we could do with more threads being able to be shown per page, as at the moment the amount of irrelevant pinned topics combined with lack of 'page space' tends to push threads over to other pages where they are forgotten about... and yes, I know these two last points are Feature Requests! | | | DVD Blu-Ray LastFM |

I had thought the same, but I thought ... baby steps. If we can generate a bit more discussion then a new sub-forum might be justified. As it stands, one would have to argue the "potential". | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

I know you're right, and I have to keep reminding myself that these forums are a direct off-shoot of the software program, and not really about films.... (it would be good if we had 2 forums... one about films, one about the program ) but as your original post intends, I think we do need to focus on the film / DVD side of the spectrum more. This (hopefully) is what will entice new members/old members to post again/come back. I mean 10 page threads about the CLT, are all well and good, but most members will just yawn and leave... which is what I have done on many occasions... I keep coming back though ...mainly because the software is damn good, and that there are odd snippets of stuff on here that interest me as a DVD collector, plus I do contribute regularly. I mean you would have only purchased this program because you are a collector of DVDs and/or Blu-Ray's or are interested in film. Therefore off-topic discussion is all well and good, but it seems to dominate this forum and does not leave much room for the shared interest. My consensus is that the forum as a whole needs a major restructure. Anyway: Off discussion rant over... let's hope more people think this is a good idea, but I fear it is a case of 'locking the barn door after the horse has bolted' - sadly. | | | DVD Blu-Ray LastFM | | | Last edited: by bizarre_eye |

I agree with you here. I recently joined this forum, which fits my film tastes well, and is structurally pretty well defined, plus allows uploads of reviews etc. from it's members. But obviously it is very niche (Eurocult), but is still very big. If we were to attempt anything like that here we would need a huge input from not only the members, but also Ken and Gerri. I just don't see that happening. ... but as you say if we started small, it could grow into something big... if enough people were interested enough | | | DVD Blu-Ray LastFM |

Thanks CLT stands for Credit Lookup Tool. You will find in under "Database" directly under "Contribution Rules" | | | Last edited: by Kathy |
