Since flogging is illegal along with using a rack and possibly an iron maiden.... whats a father to do?
Anybody want to take in a middle aged male and almost 900 DVDs until the daughter moves out? |

| Posted: | | | | My 15-year-old son has been caught lying about his homework so I hit him where it really hurts - I take away his electronic rights (he's a gamer). Plus while grounded from electronics, I make him clean the entire house. As a single dad, the house can get kinda messy. |

No, but I can take your daughter in for a while, I'll teach her some manners. HAH, I just had to say it. I mean, I'm pretty much her generation so... meh, maybe getting a little older. So don't take it in a bad way. XD Actually, I'm an 'Iron Maiden'-fan, IRONically. I'll just use loud music on her. | | | - MicHaeL | | | Last edited: by MicHaeL H. |

Anybody want to take in a middle aged male and almost 900 DVDs until the daughter moves out? No advice really, but I've been through it. Collecting DVDs and managing my collection in DVD Profiler keeps me sane. My oldest daughter became a problem at around 15 and our life was hell until she was 18. She left home and has found her way over the last couple of years. The hell part is when they're living in your house and you're responsible for them, and they thwart everything. I have 3 teenagers still in the house (one less than you Unicus...I'm not envious ) and while they still try my patience, it's not as bad as when my oldest was still home. But she and I are friendly now that we don't live together. Hang in there. There's hope. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | Can't help you with the lying, Commander.
However, learn these lyrics from Rodney Atkins. You're gonna need them.
The Declaration of Independence Think I could tell you that first sentence But then I’m lost
I can't begin to count the theories I've had pounded in my head That I forgot
I don't remember all that Spanish Or the Gettysburg address But there is one speech from high school I'll never forget
(Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her momma's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Ain’t it son? Hey y'all run along and have some fun I'll see you when you get back Bet I’ll be up all night Still cleanin' this gun
Well now that I’m a father I’m scared to death one day my daughter Is gonna find That teenage boy I used to be That seems to have just one thing on his mind
She’s growin' up so fast It won't be long before I’ll have to put the fear of god into Some kid at the door
(Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her momma's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Now ain't it son? Y’all go out and have some fun I'll see you when you get back Probably be up all night Still cleanin' this gun
Now it's all for show Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt It’s just a daddy thing And hey, believe me, man it works
(Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her momma's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Now ain't it son? Y’all run along and have a little fun I'll see you when you get back Probably be up all night Still cleanin' this gun
Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty. Drive safe.

| Posted: | | | | Tell me about it... if it wasn't for the flat rate phone bill there is no way she would be on the phone the way she is now. 13 years old and there is time (on weekends) where she is still on the phone when I am ready to go to bed! who knows how long she is up gabbing with her friends. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I experienced a similar problem with one of my step-daughters. She's 28 now and I don't see much improvement. She doesn't live with me now and of course, she hates me and won't talk to me but I take a bit of comfort in that. Some make bad choices no matter what you do and you can't blame yourself. In her defense, her father is that way too.
My advise is do the best you know how and get a hobby to help maintain your sanity. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

| Posted: | | | | This may sound kinda backwards. I raised two sons. Overall, they have been great. While growing up, they always seemed to have a bunch of nice girls around. And we made it convenient for them to be around without policing them, and I think their parents trusted us. The kids knew the rules, but they also knew we had no way of or intention of enforcing them. It was an Honor system. And there was always plenty of food, music / toys and space to gather with other friends - clean up after you're done was the main rule. Some of those friendships have continued into adulthood. So maybe one possibility is to foster a trusting relationship with some of the boys (and girls) that come into her life and try to make them be comfortable being around the house and you. If they mess up, at least they'll be close by ... Footnote: Our philosophy was to give lots of rope and then try to find ways to encourage them not to uncoil it. | | | Thanks for your support.
