I would like to be told by the system when a vote is on a profile I don't own but I just ordered or is in the wish list.
Besides, I'd like an option to disable my voting (or accidentally contributing) on profiles I don't own.

One more reason for that is that I sometimes use the Ordered/Wish list tabs to examine/compare profiles form different localities (am I the only one?).

Along with this suggestion, I think it would be helpful if we could vote "Neutral" without having to evaluate the contribution.  That would save time for those contributions we KNOW we don't want to evaluate (like the ordered or wishlist titles Enry mentions).

Yes, this way you would know there is a vote going on (just in case you want to know the profile could change) but you would also know it's not owned by you and you could thus directly vote Neutral without evaluating it.

I don't agree...I recently had several potential versions of a DVD in my wishlist (prior to christmas) and noticed once the DVD had been released a lot of updates for the title whereby a majority of the various EAN/UPC's where getting near identical cast / crew listings, except one and the one turned out to be a direct copy of IMDb. I voted against it, I also PM'd the submitter, I shall not put on here what I was told, in the end it needed Ken to scrape the submiited cast listing.

without vigilence by the many, the few will only abuse the system.

Enry I know what I own and don't own, I also know what I am comfortable voting on or not, many times I will vote neutral on titles I don't own. But If I know the data that is being dealt with then i might vote, or if I see a user has not properly documented his data or some other obvious issus, then my owning it or not becomes a non-relevant issue. Undoocumneted data is still undocumented and wrong whether I have already purchased the title or not.

This is a good idea. I don't vote on DVDs I don't own. Hope Ken implements something like this.

The important part of the suggestion is the word OPTION.  If it were not optional, I would be against it myself, for many of the reasons you cite.  However, I would find it useful if I could skip certain contributions without having to evaluate them.  Right now, a lot of contributions I see involve changing the rating from film to TV for TV series.  I find it a waste of time to have to evaluate these -- and then have to evaulate them all over again when doing a profile refresh.  So I'd rather be able to vote "Neutral" or skip evaluating them.

And my preference would be to make it a case-by-case option, rather than a blanket block on ordered/wishlist items.  Some contributions I want to see, others I don't.  That's why I suggested adding something to the database screen to be able to skip (and move out of the "unvoted" list) contributions.
