| Posted: | | | | While that is true, it should be capitalized, in this instance, as it is the name of the group. They are 'The Chipmunks', not the 'Chipmunks'. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I agree with Unicus. Some exceptions to the capitalisation rules such as this should be allowed in my opinion. |

| Posted: | | | | I think it's right following DVDP rules, it's just not right following English rules The software rules don't currently allow for such cases. |

Tis is the sticking point though, since "The" is part of a title which could has been used for a cartoon to stand alone "The Chipmunks" would be correctly Capitalized. It's not "Jason and the Argonauts" or "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" Steve |

| Posted: | | | | I agree and I also agree about Alvin and The Chipmunks Quote: It's not "Jason and the Argonauts" or "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" but if you follow the rules word for word it would be wrong. There is a lot of common sense that we should use (miss spellings in the overview, title etc.) but we don't. | | | Last edited: by Dragon 6 |

It should be capitalized if the Rules told us to use standard capitalization rules for Titles, but unfortunately, for English titles, that's not what the Rules tell us to do. They simply tell us to "check capitalization" (whatever that means) and then further down it tells us not to capitalize specific words including the word 'the'. No exception is identified stating "unless the word 'the' is used as part of the name of a group". Personally, I'd capitalize it, but the Rules say otherwise. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

| Posted: | | | | You are correct...which is why I was forced to vote yes, even though my common sense told me otherwise, when the contribution came through. The change will not, however, make it into my local db. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
