| Posted: | | | | Hi! I don't know if this has been asked before, but I have tried to get some info from some of my discs (disc id, etc), but my DVD drive on some discs comes up with "cannot identify DVD in DVD-ROM drive. Add manually to your collection?". The particular DVD I am trying to identify is in the DVDP database, so I do not need to add the DVD, but I would like to include the DVD disc ID's. Can anyone help? Thanks. |

| Posted: | | | | You get that message when Profiler can't find that particular Disc ID in the database. If you know for certain the DVD is already in the database, then it sounds like the ID has either not been entered into the profile, or it has been changed. Try adding by title instead or by barcode if your DVD has one. Once you've added the right profile to your database, edit the profile and go to the Discs tab. If no discs have been added, click the Add Disc button then the Set button (with the disc in the drive) to add the ID. If there are already discs without any ID or a different one, simply select that disc and click the Set button. You can submit this change to the online if you like, but remember if you're changing an ID you need to submit more changes not just the ID change.
Edit: just thought - do you have any disc reading software running? Programs such as AnyDVD cause conflicts with Profiler and won't allow the ID to be read - make sure it's not that. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for your reply. The DVD I have is called "The Flame Trees of Thika" starring Hayley Mills. The DVD is listed on DVDP, but on entering the DVD into my collection, I have noticed that there is no cast or crew listing, which I am proposing to rectify (I have already added them to my own DVDP listing) and upload to DVDP. On inserting the DVD into the DVD-ROM drive, DVDP does not recognize the disc. The disc plays in the drive OK though. The DVD is allegedly region 0. |

| Posted: | | | | There are 3 profiles for "The Flame Trees of Thika" in the database: 2 UK and 1 US. The top UK profile doesn't contain any disc information, so if that's the one you have then that's why it won't recognise it. Simply say "no" when it asks if you want to add it manually, edit the profile and add the discs, that should sort that out. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

I'll try to remember to contribute an update with this fixed! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for all your help. I took the DVD out of the drive and I noticed that the DVD does not have very much info, including barcode, on the inner rim of the DVD - could this be why the DVD is not being recognised? |
