I would like to see the studios changed from the 3.5.1 split of three and three to four and two. This would make entering studios a bit more complete for many non-Hollywood films that often have lots of production studios. On the other hand I have yet to see a profile that uses all three media company slots.

You don't own many Disney DVDs do you?  Most of those will have all 3 fields filled...WDHE, Disney DVD and BVHE.

This is an old problem and the answer isn't to subtract from one in order to add to the other, the answer is to simply add more to the studio section.  For the record, this situation happens quite a bit in Hollywood films.  It is not uncommon to see more than 3 production companies involved in a film.

Ihave seen as many as TEN different Prodiction Companies involved in a single project. Ken rouginally blanched at adding Ten slots plus distribution data, but had said he was going to give us 2 more Production field...so now we are waiting.

Disney DVD is a brand name.  It is the name BVHE uses for Disney DVD releases.  The brand was started back in the early days of DVD when Disney released their features on VHS as well as DVD.  With the advent of Blu-ray, they have a new brand...Disney Blu-ray...which serves the same purpose.

I voted for other. I'd like to see both unlimited, at least at the local level, much like genres are now.

I agree with you... I just wish Genre spaces were unlimited as well... there has been a few times I needed more then 5 spaces! (mostly for anthology TV Series like Tales from the Crypt)

Doesn't sound like a company to me, so what purpose does it serve in the profile?

I never said it was a company, I said it was a 'brand'.  As to what purpose it serves?  I guess it serves the same purpose any other data serves.  Whether or not you, or I, find it useful isn't really the issue.  During the discussions about this field, people did express a desire to enter the 'brand'.  For me, that's all that matters.

I try to describe this fact in the CRC-Forum.
DisneyDVD is a valid entry for the media-copmany-field because it's a:

Releasing Company (whereas Company has to be taken in a wider meaning, because for consumers it's often not visible, if the "company" is just a devision, brand, label of something bigger)

in the case of DisneyDVD it's a brand.

here some examples that we need at least 3 media-company-fields

Quote:

The Rock Deluxe Edition (4-011846-008514)
Hollywood Pictures Home Entertainment (publishing label, brand, devision)
Hollywood Pictures Company (Media Copyright-Holder)
Buena Vista Home Entertainment (Distributor)

or

Con Air (4-011846-009863)
Tochstone Home Entertainment (publishing label, brand, devision)
Touchstone Pictures (Media Copyright-Holder)
Buena Vista Home Entertainment (Distributor)

or

The Sixth Sense (7-432922-968258)
Constantin Video (brand)
VCL Communications ((c)-holder)
Warner Home Video (distributor)

if there is no need for all field (because the same "company" make severeal of these part the space should be available for other media-related companies, if available.

e.g.

Elektra (8-28766-88069-4)
ufa Home Entertainmant (label,brand)
Universum Film (copyright-Holder and distributor)
Imagion (media-creating company)

or

1492 (4-010324-020741)
Concorde Home Entertainment (publishing brand, (c)-holder, distributor)

digital media production (media creator Authoring & Remastering, ...)
GLS Studios (content-creator)
SonoPress (Media Manufacturing)

If it's local, who cares? And if we're to take only whatever Ken gives, why the purpose of a Feature Request forum?

Also, I can't customize IMDb to suit my needs. That's what I would like to use DVDP for.

Why should anyone care, except for you, exactly what or how many Genres you thiunk apply to a specific movie, I certainly don't want to see them Online or have to judge them as part of my voting, You can customize genre as detailed as you want it to be through Tags. We have five fields now two of which are customizable, that should be plenty.

Must every little bit of insignificant data in which any given user has an interest in be Contributable...if so you don't want to see what I would add, but then i understand the difference between data which i am interested and why I am interested in it and whether or not it would bring much to the larger Community.

No one said to be able to contribute an unlimited amount when it comes to genres... Personally I would want unlimited genre spaces to be local only. Actually I have given up on contributing genres a long...LONG time ago. As I pointed out before... I prefer not to have to go to 2 different places for the same information. And as for IMDB.... why would I want to go there where it is other people's opinions? What I want is what my opinion on the shows would be. And for the record 95% of the time what we have now is plenty. But when it comes to something like Anthology TV Series (Tales from the Crypt and such) and I am doing genres for 6 to 8 episodes per disc 5 spots is not always enough.

Back on subject... as for studios I am happy to take whatever Ken wants to give us... though I can see where there may be a need for more. But I definitely can't see taking away from one list to give the other more spaces.
