This is something I have thought about for a while. How do we enter studios? Rules says enter as credited, so here's my dilemma(question) do we add in order of the opening movielogos, or from the text "something" productions - in association with "something entertainment" Doing an audit for UHF now and the opening are following:
*Movie Logo - Metro Goldwyn Mayer (The lion roar)
*Movie Logo - An ORION pictures release
--Movie begins - text on movie : A CINECORP production
*In  association with IMAGINARY ENTERTAINMENT

Would the right thing to contribute in order be:
Metro Goldwyn Mayer
Orion Pictures
Cinecorp
Publisher: MGM Home Entertainment

I never go by Logos. I always enter the textual Studio names as credited.

Soooooo we should enter it from "something pictures" present in association with "something pictures"etc? Good to know, since the logos in order differs from the textual ones.. Seems the right way to do it

Actual creds not Logos. The ONLY place the Logo can come into play is determining the Theatrical Distributor (#1 Field).

So the first logo goes into the first column in studios? as a Theatrical distributer? and is it always that way that the first logo is the distributor?

I don't know of an exception to that, benty. The easiest way i can explain is this, Warner Bros. logo is first. But when you start seeing the Studio creds, there is no WB, they are the Theatrical Distributor.

Yes that is true. So if I understand you correctly, i.e WB as first, and then the other studios as listed as long as there are space for them

In this particular case, MGM should be omited and Orion listed as the release studio.  UHF was released by Orion pictures in 1989.  The reason the MGM logo is shown in the opening credits is because they purchased the studio, and its post 1982 film library, in 1998.

For TV and home video release, all Orion films were 'branded' with the MGM logo.

Right again, Unicus, but you knew that.    MGM acquired the Orion Films library several years back. Hence the MGM logo you see at the beginning of these films would be for MGM HE. this is generally easily spotted as the MGM HE splash screen includes MGM.com usually.

Indeed! MGM should be omitted here - in my experience this is quite a common mistake.

I agree. MGM seems to paste their new logo before virtually every film that they release to DVD, even though many of those films had nothing to do with MGM on their original release. This includes Orion, Trans World, Hemdale, Atlantic Releasing, American International, Samuel Goldwyn Company, Empire Pictures, Triumph, and various other tiny studios they've acquired to their library of films from over the years.
