How can I keep the automatic collection number assignment from filling in missing numbers. I want the number to always be the next highest.

If you have blanks in your collection numbering because of removing profiles you can re-number your collection to eliminate the gaps. If you number your collection by purchase date, like I do, and that information is in all of your profiles, then re-numbering by purchase date will fix your problem. In fact, if you number your collection in any of the "default" choices, then it is easy. If you use some other method, it gets tricky.

Use the menu: Collection/Reassign Collection Numbers... to access the tool. Select Partial Reassignment, and tick the box to eliminate gaps. You can also select eliminate duplicate/assign where blank or not depending on your preferences. You can also reassign only within a range, I haven't played with that so I can't tell you how well that works. BACKUP first and play all you want, you can always restore if you mess it up.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response. In my case, I have my dvd's, blu-rays labeled with the collection numbers and then I have a book listing all movies by the different categories and one listing alphabetically with the collection number to retrieve it by. I recently started on blu-ray and want them numbered from the top. I have about 15 missing numbers in the lower numbers and I would like to keep them seperately. Sounds like I need some fake profiles or a seperate database I guess.

As antolod saif, you can use numeric ranges. I use a range from 1-10,000 for my movies and 10,001-20,000 for my series discs. When you buy another disc you simply change the number to something within that range and then use the renumbering function from the Collection menu (e.g. renumber all titles by purchase date, but not under 10001 and not above 20000)
