I was wondering if it could be possible to show how many people have a certain DVD (or BluRay/HD-DVD for that matter).

I'm curious about this since there are a lot of rare releases (I've contributed several myself) and that way we can get a statistically report how often a certain disc has been bought within the DVD Profiler community.
Also you can see if a certain disc which you have added yourself has been added to other users.

Ofcourse many of you don't want to show there DVD collection or name in public, therefore no names have to be made visible just the amount of discs.

Take for example The THX Ultimate Demo Disc which has not been released to the public, but still many people have this one.

Just a thought...

This has been asked for a few times in the months I've been here & loads of times in the months prior to that. I personally would have no objections to it if the figures were only based on collections that aren't set as private. Either that or an extra option on the website where you could opt in (& out again later) to it. For privacy issues (even if only numbers are collected) it should be off by default.

I've been tempted to do that before just to see how many people actually pay attention to what they're voting for!

That's interesting..I never knew that there are more people who asked the same question (I did search for it within the forum but couldn't find anything related)..

Well, yes it also came to my mind to make some sort of erronous contrib. but always kept it to myself.

@Forget_the_rest: I won't see any harm at only collecting the numbers because no one knows which has the disc. But yes, if you want to make it fail-safe as in keep everything private as it is, then this option should be left off by default.

Well we shall see if it will be added...only time will tell..

This is something that Ken listed as part of his plans when he made the switch from IVS to Invelos. I would love to see this data. I collect lots of R1 non-English language DVDs and would love to see how many others are seeing my work on the profiles.

The only way I could see this working would be to take this data from the uploaded online collection data. This data would only show a fraction of the total userbase (20%, 10%, 5% ???). One more check-box could be added to your online profile settings to keep your data out of the stats (why some users would care about this I don't know).
