http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Meredyth_Lucas John Meredyth Lucas (May 1, 1919 - October 19, 2002) was a writer, primarily for television. He is best remembered for the work he did on Star Trek as a writer, producer and director. He was the only writer on the original series to direct an episode he penned ("Elaan of Troyius"). He also wrote for Mannix.
He was the son of screenwriter Bess Meredyth and writer/director Wilfred Lucas, and the adopted son of director Michael Curtiz.

| Posted: | | | | I see nothing in the information you quoted that referes to him as Mr. Meredyth Lucas. The fact that his mother's maiden name is part of his name has no bearing on how the name is parsed. Without further proof, I would parse him J/M/L | | | Kevin |

The fact that his mother's maiden name is part of his name has no bearing on how the name is parsed. Without further proof, I would parse him J/M/L I agree... there is nothing there that shows it is a double last name... for all we know his parents gave him his mother's maiden name for a middle name. Definitely I have seen people do that before... on more then one occasion. So without further proof... I would do J/M/L as well. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Googling his name i find multiple sources that when they refer to him by his last name only use Lucas. Example: Quote: VARIETY reports that writer, director, and producer John Meredyth Lucas passed away of leukemia on October 19 in Los Angeles at age 83. Lucas' career stretched back to the infancy of television, and was marked by long involvement with genre projects, including THE SIX-MILLION DOLLAR MAN, NIGHT GALLERY, and notably, STAR TREK.
Lucas wrote and/or directed many episodes of the original series, including "The Changeling," "The Ultimate Computer," "Patterns of Force," "The Enterprise Incident" and "That Which Survives." I daresay he used his middle name professionally to distinguish himself from the other John Lucas' in Hollywood. There are at least a dozen if you believe iMD*. | | | Bad movie? | Posted: | | | | I agree with Pete and Kevin. There is no evidence that it is a double last name. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with the others. According to this article on StarTrek.com, which I would consider to be an authoritative source, they refer to him by his last name, Lucas
