Chances of the software being changed to support that are slim.

However, you can easily use the tag system to add a tag named "Divx" to those profiles which will allow you to filter the collection accordingly.

As Johan says, using tags is currently the best way to record these, and the VHS requested in the other thread.
However, I do think adding the ability to have local "custom" formats in our database is a great idea and would make a lot of people happy!

Tyrell63, check out the link in my signature for detailed instructions on tags.

Although I agree with you, a media type checkbox would be nicer than using tags. What I'd like to see is a custom checkbox where we can enter whatever we want, and when that is checked off the profile becomes non-contributable.

It's been asked for quite a lot though, so now it's just a matter of playing the waiting game to see if Ken will implement it or not. I suspect not, but you never know.

Skip I think he was talking about the modern video codec divx - not the defunct rival to dvd divx... he's talking about recordings from tv here....

OP: You can use the tag system and manual profiles to accomplish this... you can also put "Divx" in the edition field of those manually profiles if you prefer not to have tags.

Certainly it can be done now in a way, but I think it could be done better if we introduced local custom formats, just as we have with the genres.
They would be easier to filter, and so wouldn't lead to misleading total numbers in reports etc.
We could even include the ability to add a custom logo to replace the current DVD/blu-ray/HD-DVD logos on the profiles.
I'm no expert but I don't see any major programming hurdles to overcome: it would simply be a manual profile with a custom format.
It would mean if users wanted to they could log their video games, VHS, CDs, beer! - anything they wanted to, but with more integration into the program than the tags system currently allows.

Wait - sorry to hijack but we can make custom genres now in 3.5? How do I go about doing that?

Define them at Tools > Edit Custom Genres.  Then just type them into the genre fields of the profile.  Only the first 3 fields are contributed and then only the standard genres, so I try to stick my custom genres in fields 4 & 5 for ease of maintenance.

I agree that tags and the notes field may be the proper location to store this kind of information. But I can't understand that it is not possible to deselect all media options to tell that the profile is neither a DVD, nor a Blu-ray, nor a HD-DVD. A profile marked like this could be automatically marked as not contributable as well.
