| | Posted: | | | | I've just been thoroughly examining my "The Matrix Trilogy" Bluray discs this weekend, and have found an encoded audio track on all the discs that is not selectable via PowerDVD nor a PS3  It is actually a Japanese audio track in Dolby Digital 5.1 and there also appears to be Japanese subtitles. Now, the contribution rules state Quote:
List audio tracks in the order in which they are encoded on the disc, determined via your DVD player or DVD-ROM drive The audio track is encoded on the disc and I determined it via my DVD-ROM [Bluray-ROM]. Should I take the Red Pill: submit an update adding the "missing" Audio Track, given that I don't believe the manufacturers of the disc have made it accessible? It could be a hidden Easter Egg, but I have no information that it is, and I personally doubt it is. My assumption is it is a "common" encoded video/audio stream that has been used in different geographical regions, and the menuing system has been "regionalised" to limit access to the various languages. The same it true with the Batman Gotham Knights Blu-Ray. However, on the disc if you set your player's default language to Japanese You get different menus and the audio track and subtitles unlocked and they become selectable. Might want to try this. Tom |

| | Posted: | | | | Warner did the same thing with The Perfect Storm, Eraser, and Interview with the Vampire to name a few. I don't understand why Warner is singling out the Japanese audio and subtitle tracks since other asian tracks, when made available, can be found via the main menu.
I'd append the Japanese track to the end of all of the other tracks found via the regular menu. |

Unfortunately, PowerDVD's language selection drop-down list is in local language format, so the Asian languages are difficult for me to interpret, so selecting Japanese is tricky  But they look like they are in Western alpabetical order, so the first two are probably Chinese variations, so Japanese is one of the other two ... 50/50  possibly Japanese and Korean, so will go with Option C  Time for some more investigating | | | | You can download higher resolution versions of any of my cover scans from here |

| | Posted: | | | | Tom: you were spot on All I had to do (in the end, after a few attempts) was change my Menu Language in PowerDVD to Japanese, and there appeared the Japanese audio track and subtitles! I will have to add those, with suitable explanation. However, I can see people trying to remove these in the future, as they won't see them listed by default. Also, it is not listed on the covers. I had one like it a few months back - don't remember which movie it was, but it had subtitles that was not selectable through the menus, only when cycling through them with the subtitle-button. The only time the track becomes available is when the default menu language is set to Japanese. When this is done the only audio tracks made available are usually an English and a Japanese track. |

Wouldn't this be considered an easter Egg?? It's not an easter egg, it's a sneaky trick to let them charge double the price for the same disc in Japan. If someone in Japan goes to Amazon.com they see $25 but no Japanese listed. They go to Amazon.co.jp they see $50 and it has Japanese (it's also the same disc with a different label). Or Worse, it comes in a fancy box with a figure and more extras discs and costs 37905yen. I even have one DVD like this. Set my Player to R1 and I see English menus and trailers, set it to R2 and I see all Japanese. I think it took a week for people to figure out what they were trying to pull  | | | | Tom. |
