Costum designer in Star Trek (from TOS on).
I have a doubt on the parsing of the name, he was credited as "William Theiss" in TOS from episode 2 to 40 and "William Ware Theiss" from 41 to 79 and in Star Trek TNG and other films and TV shows. in wikipedia I've found:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Ware_Theiss
References
* The Hodgson, Ware, & Theiss Genealogy available from Darren McMannis (dmc@southwind.net).

(bolded by me), so I think that Ware should be part of surname and not middle (second) name. Opinions?

Other question:
the common name is not yet available from Invelos Credit Lookup, however from the sources
http://www.filmreference.com/film/74/William-Ware-Theiss.html
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0857382/
and from the dvd that I have'nt yet contributed, I can see that the most common credit is "William Ware Theiss"
Is it correct to use the credited as option on the basis of those sources?

Parsing:
The Wikipedia page refers to him as Theiss.  The www.filmreference.com page has him alphabetically in the T's.  (Note the link [Jules Tasca to Sam Trammell] above his name.

Just because his middle name was or is someone else's surname doesn't make it part of his surname.

As you know many of the older ST credits are simply William Theiss so apparently he didn't use "Ware" as part of his surname.

I vote William/Ware/Theiss.

Common name:
Since no version of his name exists in the crew credits submit some of those with William Ware Theiss first and establish that has the common name.  Then work backwards towards the apparently less common variants.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

I agree.  My family history is lousy with people being given a middle name that's the same as grandmother's maiden name, but it's just a middle name, not part of the last name.  It sounds much like what's going on in the Theiss family.
