Hello everyone:

A little while ago I posted a note about sharing a database over a network.  If anyone else is doing this, I have a little tip.

When I upgraded to 3.5 (build 1239), I needed to set up the permissions again on the host machine.  I guess the upgrade reset some stuff that I changed.

That's it, if any cares.

Thanks for sharing this did any error message pop-up, so you became aware of the problem?
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

I'm not sure why this happened for you. I share my database and I accidentally used the beta to access my main copy (not a local one which I was going to use) and I had no problems at all / errors. It just changed the database to the latest version before my very eyes.

So I had to restore back again.

(although that wasn't very latest program version).

Don't forget the sharing was done on the database (not the program).

Have you checked to see if the additional directories like galleries/headshots that are additional to the 3.1 version are set on the local PC or the network drive? If the network then these would need to be shared as well. Mine are local (not on the network)

Yes, yes, I did.  When I first started Profiler on the laptop, I got a "can't find the database error" or something to that effect.  I didn't understand the error until I actually navigated to the DB from the laptop to the host machine.  When I tried to access the db, I got the permission error.  I went back to the host machine, and I just had to propagate the permissions to the subfolders.

I noticed that most of Profiler's information is contained in one folder.  I share that folder.  So it becomes uber easy to see (and work with) most of Profiler's information between the PCs.  Cover Images, headshot, cast/crew, etc. are all contained in the defualt directories.

I think reports and layouts are outside the default and unique to PC.  Also, I think you might need to install what ever plugins you want on each PC.  (I don't have the Name Variant installed on the laptop, and it is unavailable on that machine.)

I wish I had more time/reason to really delve into this software.  For what you pay for it, and how much you get out of it, it's the biggest bargain in the house.
