| Posted: | | | | Started in the studio reference thread but not sure if that is the right place for the discussion. I tried searching but the results seemed to be related to the dub cast or timeouts and not related to production company(s).
I have seen inconsistency for region 1 Anime releases for giving credit for the production of the localization version.
Should the localization Production Company be listed as a production company room permitting?
In 3.5 if they are credited as both the localization Production Company and Distributor should they be listed once in each area or even listed at all?
The rules just just say "Production Company(s)" without reference to original or localized (unless I missed it).
In many cases they use the same name for production and distribution but sometimes not. For example I just verified that Blue Gender is credited as "FUNimation Productions" for "English Adaption By" and "Post Production" in the credits but is listed as "FUNimation Entertainment" for the distributor on box. Both are the same company.
In 3.5 I have been doing : original Theatrical Release Studio(s) (If any - most are TV) > original Japanese Production Company(s) > US Production Company > US Distributor (in distributor field).

| Posted: | | | | I have to admit I don't 100% understand your question so apologies if I've got this wrong.
As long as they're credited on the DVD, yes I think it's acceptable to list the localization production company as long as there's still room in the studios list, but the original production company should take precedence.
If the same company is listed twice, then I also see no problem listing them twice on the profile either. As in your example, list FUNimation Productions in the studio field, and put FUNimation Entertainment in the distributor field. Same situation with a lot of Hollywood films: we have Warner Bros as studio, and Warner Home Video as distributor.
One thing to note about TV shows, if the commissioning channel of the show is credited on the DVD, then you can class them as "theatrical release studio". |

Thank you. You got the question right. I'm seeing some ping-ponging on adding and removing the localization companies so was trying to get a feeling of how people felt about this. Tom |
