OK I bought an older PDA phone from verizon. VX6600 runnin 2003se and active sync. The PC running vista. The connection is with a bluetooth connection and I cannot get mobile profiler to install. There is a connection between the 2 but the options in the PDA are for an active sync connection and vista uses the mobile software. Is it a compatibility issue between active sync and windows mobile

Hi Bill,

Having never used Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista or a Bluetooth connection I am not the best person to answer, but since no-one else has yet replied I will troubleshoot with you.

After reading the web-site for Windows Mobile Device Center it appears firstly that Windows 2003 SE and Vista are supported! The ActiveSync on your mobile as you have found works with the software fine. FWIW my PPC also runs ActiveSync and it's Windows Mobile 6.1, so the communication layer is fine between the two differing named softwares.

Enables you to set up new partnerships, synchronize content and manage music, pictures and video with Windows Mobile powered devices (Windows Mobile 2003 or later).

Hooray, first result

Next problem to tackle would be the Bluetooth aspect. Reading the link above it does say "Full support", but then clicking the Troubleshoot Link (as I always do!) it says:
Quote:
Can I connect for the first time via Bluetooth or IR?
The initial connection between your device and the desktop WMDC application needs to happen with a cable. After that initial connection, you will be able to set up Bluetooth and IR for future connections.

So question to you, did you initially connect and sync with a cable?

I am guessing that there is some connectivity settings that need to be transferred initially. If you did, try the ideas from the troubleshoot page list under I can't sync over Bluetooth..

If you can sync over Bluetooth, between your PDA and your PC, then we are at some stage that needs further delving.

Question to other readers, does anyone else sync between DVD Profiler and DVD Profiler Mobile over a Bluetooth connection ?

Please let us know how you get on...

back to the problem today. I was able to sync via bluetooth on a desktop pc running XP but not on Vista. Only difference is that both machines are running active sync. The Vista running laptop allows me to file share but not sync data. Maybe there is something corrupt in my system. I am connected to bluetooth via a targus usb bluetooth dongle. Same one that connected on the PC. Still testing and will report findings if anyone cares to know. I thought I get more help. Thanks Boyce for your support.

Hello,

just a little clarification: on Vista you can't use Activesync. It's now Windows Mobile Device Center that you can download from the Microsoft website.

@Cyrille

I think he was seeking more clarification about the support between the two differently named products, Mobile Device Center (Vista) working with Active Sync on his PDA - which is what has shown to be fine.

The main issue here is the Bluetooth Synchronisation of DVD Profiler (Vista) and DVD Profiler Mobile (PDA).

@Bill

When you say "able to sync via bluetooth on a desktop pc running XP but not on Vista" - do you mean Synchronize your PDA Files or DVD Profiler Mobile synchronise? 2 different things that both utilise the "sync" keyword, so we need to be specific. If you can DVD Profiler Mobile Sync with XP, then that would show that the Bluetooth Connection using Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista) and DVD Profiler Mobile (PDA) is where the issue lies.

Surely someone else has it installed on Vista and synchronises fine, anyone in this scenario can test a Bluetooth connection? (I can do this over the weekend on a friend's PC if no-one answers - my machine does not have Bluetooth - so there will be hope!)

I have Vista and I could have tested but I only use Beta version of DVD Profiler and we can't synchronize for the moment with DVD Profiler Mobile. We need the new version that isn't already released in beta so I couldn't. Sorry...

I can sync the Files via bluetooth but not DVD Mobile Profiler. As far as Vista is concerned the PDA is not there in Windows Mobile Device Center and it was connected the first time via a USB connection.

Try this:

Open up the Control Panel by clicking Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double-click on "Windows Mobile Device Center"
Hover your mouse over "Mobile Device Settings" to expand it and click on "Connection Settings"
Set the "Allow connections" checkbox and set the dropdown under it to "Bluetooth"

That did not work Dr. Killpatient but I did figure it out this morning.... I was up all night... The settings were all there and the device was able to connect to file share but not sync. I checked all settings even the bluetooth setting you mentioned when I saw the COM PORT setting as an option. THE PDA defaults to COM PORT 5 and 6 and the blue tooth on the laptop was using 11 and 12. A quick reassignment of com ports and now the connection is being made and the PDA and Vista are in sync.

Thank you to all.
Bill
