Ok, just double checking before I submit, but we can't remove information that was grandfathered in from the old database, correct?

Basically, I watched Pom Poko (UPC: 786936175257) this evening and as I watched the credits, realized that the cast from the movie is not what is profiled.  There is no where on the disc that any of the Japanese voices were credited that I can find...nor on the bonus disc.  There is a Japanese audio, but as I don't speak Japanese, can't confirm or deny that they didn't "say" the credits for the Japanese version but these names are no where in writing on the disc.

Most of the cast list was placed in some random order, Japanese voices first, then English, not utilizing the voice/uncredited checkmarks.  What I've done so far is make the English version match the credits, then change the Japanese credits to show uncredited/voice only without removing them.  I separated them both by using the divider buttons rather than leaving the words "Japanese/English voice" in the role played box which seems to be the way other anime (Kiki's Delivery Service/Howl's Moving Castle) is done.

Which brings me to my original question.  I can't just remove these because I can't prove that these are IMDb copies?  And they're not, unfortunately...close, but not quite.

Thanks for the help/confirmation...

Use the following links and follow some of the information there and you should be able to come up with enough documentation for the submitting the Japanese cast as uncredited.

is there English Subtitles on the dvd, sometimes you can find information there, but my contributions have been declined using that.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

If you choose the Japanese language track from the dvd menu (not just changing with the remote), you will usually also see a different credit list, either in place of the original one or playing after the movie is done.

(I think that's how the credits in Kiki's Delivery Service was laid out. I didn't mark the japanese cast as uncredited when I audited the Canadian locality version (contribution notes here))

I just wanted to answer this question in a general manner.  There is no such thing as 'grandfathered data'.  If it is wrong, it is wrong, and can be removed.

Unicus is incorrect. ALL of the old (uncredited) dsata prior to July 2005 was indeed GRANDFATHERED in  by Ken Cole. Do not simply copy such data over to a new Profile unless you have verifed the data  and can provide documentation to support the inclusion of any such data.

Something to keep in mind when looking for documentation...

When the contributions were originally made here at Invelos the only notes were "new contribution". So for many, if not all profiles that were originally added in March of last year there is no documentation available.

Well, that's not entirely true, Rick. The documentation is available through the Intervocative archives.

Only for DVDs that existed in the Intervocative database and that you had in your online collection before it closed. That narrows it down quite a bit.
Completely new additions to the Invelos database could not be documented.

and the link to these archives is where Skip? Personally I'm on my 3rd computer since Invelos went live. I have nothing at all linking me to IVS, although I can still see my collection online. The only way I would know to view an archive would be to still have a version of the IVS DVDP running and then to check the contribution notes for that.

My point remains that for the Invelos DB everything originally added will simply say "new contribution" with no practical way (or even possible way for many) of documenting where the information came from.

I am glad to hear that you are on you third computer, Rick thius has been noted before those of us, like myself that move our old 2.5 right along with the rest of our data have access to those old archives. I guess maybe I really am smatrter than the average bear, Boo Boo. This has been noted several times before in the last 18 months.<shrugs>

I don't use those old archives often but there are times when they are useful to have access to.

And the relevance to this discussion is...?
Did I say anything about whether they were or weren't called archives?
My and Rick's point is that looking back to Intervocative for contribution notes is pretty useless unless you happened to have had that particular title in your online collection before their demise and still have 2.5 installed on your PC. That will not be of any use to many users.

To get easy access to most of the old contribution notes: Read this thread for adding a link to the Intervocative contribution notes to a HTML window. I know nothing about HTML, and I managed to get it stuck into Goodguy's Features+ window and it workes quite nicely. The only draw back is that the link will not find a profile that is using the DiscID for UPC.

Hardly, north, the Invelos database has titles which have been introduced in the 21 moinths, BUT in a database of 300,000+ titles that is barely significant. There have been  about 70,000 titles added in that time frame. Of course there is going to be data that is not in the archives, I can't believe you even think is some sort of argument. But to claim that the data is completely inaccessible is simply foolish, it does take a little FORE thought. But the data in those archives is extremely valuable, which is why I maintain my 2.5 database, obviously there is no need to add to it, it is frozen in time at the point Invelos was created. Which is as it should be. Lol, Boo Boo.

To link to the old contribution notes, you can incorporate something like this into one of your HTML sections.

But you should be aware that those notes not necessarly match the initial contribution someone has made here.

Quote:

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<SCRIPT language=javascript>
<DP NAME="HEADER_VARS" Language="JavaScript" Comments="False" IncludeCast="False" IncludeCrew="False">
</SCRIPT>
<SCRIPT language=javascript>

function toOldUPC(szUPC) {
// Convert full UPC into old V2-style UPC
  var i;
  switch (szUPC.charAt(0)) {
    case "I": return szUPC; // Don't convert disc IDs
    case "M": return szUPC; // Don't convert manual profiles
  }
  i = szUPC.indexOf(".");
  if (i < 0) i = szUPC.length;
  switch (i) {
    case 12: return szUPC.substr(1, 10) + szUPC.substr(i);
    case 13: return szUPC.substr(1, 12) + szUPC.substr(i);
    default: return szUPC; // Paranoid
  }
}

window.onload = window_onload;
function window_onload() {
  idIVSLink.href =
    "http://www.intervocative.com/Forums.aspx?"
    + "task=contributionnotes&type=DVD&ProfileUPC="
    + toOldUPC(DP_UPC);
}

</SCRIPT>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<A id=idIVSLink target=_blank href="#">IVS Contribution Notes</A>
</BODY>
</HTML>

EDIT:
Or you use ya_shin's code snippet as linked to by antolod.
