For regular orders, I enter the order date as the purchase date since that's the day I purchased it, regardless of shipping time.

For pre-orders, I enter the release date as the purchase date.

I never change either, but I have no objection to the request.

I use the "By Purchase Date" sort function whenever I have to resort/renumber my collection, so it can move stuff around quite a bit depending on when it actually arrived.

I understand. I just don't track the arrival date. I consider the act of purchasing to be the date I'd like to record.

Using my method, for instance, when I participated in Deep Discount's Criterion sale, all of those Criterions appear together in my collection number sequence even though Deep Discount trickled them out to me as they stocked them. (For those not familiar with this sale, Deep Discount had a large discount on Criterions...except most were out of stock. So if you placed a large order [as I did  ], your DVDs were shipped over a couple of months.)

But everyone has their personal preferences, so as I said, I don't object to the request. Just giving a different perspective.

Correct. I'm tracking the date that the purchase decision was made (except for pre-orders). The date that I'm charged or the date it arrives doesn't matter to me.
