Hello,
Well, another DVDSpot refugee here. I have to say that I was reluctant to start another dvd tracking system after the burn at the Spot but, having made the plunge I have to say that so far I have been impressed with DVDP.

Now, as a noob, I am sure that these have been asked before (and I did search through several months of threads before asking so apologies if they are from a while ago)

1) When I do a title search is there an option to have it search for keywords rather than the actual beginning title? Example (or explanation) . . . I have the Indiana Jones movie collection and wanted to mark it loaned out. I did a search for "Indiana" and came up with nothing. I couldn't remember if it were "Complete Indiana . . ." or "Adventures of Indiana . . ." so just typing "Indiana" would have been more useful. I did eventually find it by trying different titles (Adventures of Indiana . . .) but it would have been quicker to just have it show when typing "Indiana".

2) Watched option: Is there a way to specify what was actually watched on a dvd? Example: If I have a TV set and want to mark that I watched episodes 1-3 yesterday, 4-6 today, etc I don't see an option to do this. I see that under "users" I can see my watched history but with no notes as to what was actually watched. Another example is that I like to keep track of which bonus features I have viewed.

3) TV Episodes: I have a large collection of TV shows. On DVDSpot we could specify what episodes or other things were on a dvd

(example of episode titles:
Disc 1: The Early Shift / New Conductor / Olive Takes A Trip/ Bus Driver's Stomach / The New Inspector / The Canteen / The Darts Match

Disc 2: Family Fun / The Used Combination / Self Defense / Aunt Maud / Late Again / Bon Voyage

Disc 3: First Aid / The Cistern / The Inspector's Niece / Brew It Yourself / Busmen's Perks / The Snake / Mum's Last Fling

etc.)

I notice that you can currently use "Main Feature" or "Bonus Materials" or type your own info in for the disc description however, there is a character limit. I was only able to say "Episodes 1-6" and not actual titles. Am I missing something.

Finally, thanks to mediadogg for making the DVDSpot import plugin. Although the "purchase place" didn't work well for me, everything else seemed to make it over fine (except that it missed about 20 of my 2000+ collection, not bad with the odds!)

Welcome noob!  I'm certainly glad you're enjoying the program. Feel free to ask any questions you want - the search on the forums is not the best, so it is difficult to find things.
To answer your questions:

1) Yes. You need to go the the Filters window (Ctrl+F if you don't already have it open) and click on "substring search" next to the title search field. Once that is ticked, it will work both there and in the quick search in the toolbar.

2) Fraid not. Best options are to either use the Notes field of the profile itself, create tags for each episode, or create manual profiles for each episode. I'm sure there are other ways round it too.

3) Again it's a no I'm afraid. Although you're more than welcome to have that information in the Overview of the profile. It's even allowed by the rules so can be contributed.

Hope this helps a little bit!

You can do a search of title. Ensure you have the general filter selected and then you can tick a box to get a substring search. Or even search notes or the overview.

If you right click on a profile you can mark it as watched. If you want to select which bit you have watched then you can have sub profiles for the episodes. These may already exist - but they don't download automatically. If necessary you could create a manual profile. for instance for some tv shows I create manual profiles for each disc with just the episode numbers. Then I can mark these as watched.

Disc 3: First Aid / The Cistern / The Inspector's Niece / Brew It Yourself / Busmen's Perks / The Snake / Mum's Last Fling

etc.)

There may be separate profiles for each separate disc in a set. But they won't download automatically - you will need to do a title search for them.

I notice that you can currently use "Main Feature" or "Bonus Materials" or type your own info in for the disc description however, there is a character limit. I was only able to say "Episodes 1-6" and not actual titles. Am I missing something.

Thanks for the search option. I am not sure about sub-profiles so will have to explore further. I am not a programmer but it seems a simple text box with each watched feature would solve that problem.

Thanks again, I am sure I will have more questions as I delve further into the program.

Yes, there is.

When you click "Set Watched By" (either in a context menu, the toolbar, Ctrl+W or Menu DVD_Watched By), select the viewer and the date, then type a Note (the eps you watch, a rating, a comment).  All this is stored in the DVD History (context menu, Ctrl+H, Menu DVD_View History).  (It took me a bit to find it, but I'm a couple of laps ahead of you. )

Ah great! I see it now! Not as clean as I would like (maybe it would be nice to not only include a "notes" section but another couple of fields).

Nice to see you as well C&C

For keeping track of the watched events of episodes you could try my Cinematic Collection Viewer. You can import your Profiler collection and assign episodes to a profile for which you can set watch dates. Searches are done with SQL queries. Some examples are available in the update section.
