| Posted: | | | | By Wolfgang Gruener: Pricewatch – Our most recent watchlist of Blu-ray players reveals dramatic price drops just in time for the Christmas shopping season. Average U.S. retail prices for most mainstream Blu-ray players have dropped at least 20% over the past 45 days and if you are patient, you may find a name-brand player for just a few bucks more than you would pay for a high-end upscaling DVD player. With movie prices dropping as well, it appears that Blu-ray is positioned to gain much more traction than it has right now. Is it too late? | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Apparently, the Benelux shops are unaware of this price drop. The Godfather trilogy is listed 74.99€ in pre-order at a dutch webshop. It is listed at 47.49€ at a UK webshop. 6 months ago the average price for a new-release Blu-Ray was 29.99€. it's still the same. I paid less for the US Heroes BD release as the Benelux DVD price. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | I finally took the plunge.
And just for kicks I double-dipped with a copy of the first DVD I ever bought in 1998, "Dark City". I also double-dipped with "The Godfather Collection" and "How the West Was Won". Just have to see the "Smile Box" version I'm looking forward to compare them with the blu-ray. Monday I'll see.
Also been looking at internal Blu-ray disc hardware for my PC. That and an update for my Cyberllink software, that's an other $300.00 plus. Boy, I could have bought many, many DVDs with all that. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. I just took the plunge into the Blu pool myself on Tuesday. Got my Samsung Blu-ray player from Amazon for $228 which included The Ultimate Matrix Collection for free. I'll probably do the same as you and double-dip the Godfather Coppola Restoration and How the West was Won too . I still don't have a HDTV yet though. I was undecided on LCD vs Plasma...decided Plasma. Was undecided on Panasonic vs Samsung...decided Samsung. I should be Full HD in a couple of weeks . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Any opinions on upgrading an HD ready TV to a full HD?
I currently own a Sony KDL-46V2000. It's HD ready and has a contrast ration of 1000:1. I have a panasonic DMP-BD30 hooked up in 720p and a region free Pioneer DV-400V-S, also connected in 720p mode. I do have a good image quality, but I'm wondering if upgrading will make a major difference.
We have an offer at work were we can get a few models at very interesting prices. The one that looks the best is the Sony KDL-46W4500. It's full HD, has a contrast ratio of 50000:1, has 100Hz motion flow, and 24p True Cinema.
Another option is the Samsung LE46A656. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

LCD screens that I've seen have trouble with darker images, and seem to emphasise edge enhancement and compression artefacts more than plasma screens. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

Why would you choose Plasma over LCD? Just as North stated. I've compared the output of both LCD and Plasma side-by-side in the showroom and Plasma kicks LCD's butt in pretty much all areas of image quality. I hate the little "jaggies" around the edges produced by LCDs. The blacks on plasmas, especially the Samsung that I looked at, were really black...unlike the LCDs and compression artifacts were much less prevalent on the Plasmas. Although the LCDs are much cheaper, I'll pay the extra $$$ for the better quality image. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |
