| Posted: | | | | If I understood the system correctly then for us it's the CLT exclusive. And if one fine day all the IMDb data got thrown out ( ), DJ can return to consistent invelos data. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: Remember that the credit lookup tool does not look at the credit entry's name Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The rules continue: "To determine whether to enter the name directly as credited, or to use the "Credited As" field, use the Credit Lookup tool." Note that the credit lookup tool is only a tool. It is not intended to override properly documented actor names. I think we should call for a stop or even on a ban on contributions just refering to the CLT | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. There is enough effort in creating a decent profile simply verifying the data that is on one disc. If to normalize the names using the provided and accepted tool we need to actually look at every other disc that the actor appears on the job gets geometrcally harder for little or no benefit. Given that even using the CLT we have the original credited as data the downside is not great IMO even if we get the 'wrong' 'common name'. But that's just my opinion. |

| Posted: | | | | CLT is a great tool, you should not use this as a stand alone to justify your contribution. I use CLT on a daily basis. The contribution consists only of this: Added Common Name (Checked with Credit Lookup Tool) tomorrow you come along and change it again. When you're in to changing names just because you feel you need to, you should do the research. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Well like I said, my opinion is differnet. :-) The amount of research that can be done personally is limited to the discs on hand and I don't feel that every name needs to be a research project. If it can documented that they're the same person and the name is credited properly for the appearance in the film I'm happy with whatever the CLT says. | | | Last edited: by Snark |

So how do we use this? I looked up Barbra Streisand (260 hits) and Barbara Streisand (15 hits). So I just state in my contribution notes that I looked it up in this lookup, state the results, and we're done with documentation?
In general, yes. There will be cases that require a bit more perusing to make sure there aren't false matches. So that's the way I do it: In general, the CLT results are enough. For some names, more research is needed. | | | ...James

Clearing up a typo and changing the credited name to the most common name without checking the facts is something completly different. From the context of the question and the response it's clear that Ken isn't talking about "clearing up a typo" but how the CLT should be used. |
