I'm in no way attempting to be a jerk, but my assumption is that since BR sales are so low as an overall percentage, it doesn't make a lot of sense to market towards yet a smaller fraction of the initial small fraction. I could certainly be wrong, though. |

We are already buying the blu discs which shows that as a group are already willing to spend more per title than the average movie buyer. I know I would pay a few bock more for the blu version of any special edition with XXX collectible. I'm not looking for blu exclusives (although it would be nice) but the Nightmare Before Christmas guy I just plunked down too much money for would have been much nicer if it had the High Def version included, even if cost more. I would really like to get the Best Buy Iron Man with the bust this week but I will not buy the standard version of this movie. Best Buy's loss, Target's gain (but unfortunately it's my loss too ). |

| | Posted: | | | | It does seem odd not to have a hi-def limited edition for Iron Man. Especially when you think that all they have to do is put the blu-ray discs in pretty much the same packaging. It's not as if blu-ray discs don't fit in DVD packaging!
I've just pre-ordered the Hellboy 2 limited editon on blu-ray and I would have thought that Iron Man was probably going to be a bigger-seller than that. |

Personally, I think their whole strategy is based on the double dip. They could easily make the SAME collectors items available to Blu-ray buyers, but I think they're after something different. They want to the people that haven't FULLY converted over to Blu-ray to buy the DVD collector's edition as well as the DVD only people. Then, later (once BD has a lot more market share), they can swing a different collector's edition through and catch the partially converted BD buyers and fully converted BD buyers. They would also end up with a larger percentage of BD owners purchasing that edition due to a collector's edition not being available the first time around. People that don't buy DVDs anymore. That's what I don't get. There are still many movies that aren't out on Blu yet with no ETA plus others that come out new with no Blu counterpart.
