One one of my favorite comic book sites there is rumor column that has about an 80% plus accuracy rating. Today he posted the following as part of his column.
=============================================

WHO WATCHES THE BATMAN DVDS?

So, how are the "Watchmen" movie legal shenanigans going to shake themselves out? Let Lying In The Gutters give you the exclusive.

Currently the situation has Fox filing suit against Warners and other connected companies over the rights to produce and distribute the upcoming "Watchmen" movie, based on contracts signed a considerable while ago. And it appears that they have a very good case indeed.

But do Fox really want to make a "Watchmen" film of their own? Do they want the money from the Warners "Watchmen" film? Do they want a cut? A payoff? Or just holding up a rival?

None of the above. Sources tell me that Fox want the 1960s Batman TV series. Currently Fox own the TV footage, but Warner Bros own the characters and trademarks, via their ownership of DC Comics. The rights to a DVD release have been held up for a long time now, and this case looks like it may be the instrument to release them.

Oh, Fox will get a wodge of cash as well - many millions of dollars it seems. But it seems they also want the rights to release the Adam West-starring Batman on DVD, something long denied fans of the series. And Warners will get the "Watchmen" film, to release as planned.

There were comic fans who threatened Fox boycotts over what they saw as their scuppering of the Watchmen movie. Looks like they may soon have cause to thank Fox for this action.
========================================================

He uses a stoplight to note whether a rumor or not the story has any substance, this one had a green light!

Jeez, this old saw again.  Warner just last week had a chat on HTF and the Batman TV show came up.  They stated unequivocably that they held no rights to that show, whatsoever.  This has nothing to do with Fox versus Warner and everything to do with the fantastic disaster that is the Dozier estate.

To put it in different terms, Batman gets all the attention because it's a hot property, but has anybody ever wondered why there isn't even a hint of a rumor of the Green Hornet series?  Because that was another Dozier rights disaster as well.  If they ever figure out how to solve one, they'll have a roadmap to solving the other.

I'm not disputing your conclusion, but actually what they said was that "Warner Home Video" had no rights to the show.  They didn't speak for Warner as a whole.

Scott:

Batman is owned by Fox PERIOD and they are in the midst of a dispute with the dughter of William Dozie, simple. Warner has absolutely NO stake in it at ANY level and Fox has not offered them the rights, nor do I expect that they will. The only question is Ms. Dozier and sofar...it's a non-issue at any level even Fox.

Warner has stated earlier that it's all Fox. Remember that Fox did release the 1966 movie, so if it would be a dispute regarding characters, the movie would've gotten the same problem.

Here's the latest report from tvshowsondvd.com.

It basically confirms that a Batman release has got a long road to go - unfortunately.

Actually there were three live action "Jokers"

    1. Cesar Romero - The Original Joker fro 60's TV show.
    2. Jack Nicholson -  The Joker the first 80's Batman movie.
    3. Heath Ledger - From the Dark Knight.

I could think of many things to call the people at Fox, but joker wasn't among them...
