It seems that DP is set up to prevent entry of duplicates, if I am correct?
If I have duplicates, for whatever reason, I should be able to enter them into DP -- or is that already possible? Is there a count field somewhere that I have missed?

duplicates are prevented... you can do a work around by adding them as manual profiles or at least one second copy by disc id...

you can also place some type of counter in the notes field, which is searchable...

There are reasons for this that I won't go into. However, I find that dupes when I have them make excellent Christmas/Birthday gifts, thus I don't have to worry about them

i'll throw it out there...

as far as i know... the reason dupes are not allowed is to prevent commercial use...

dvd profiler is more accurate than any mom and pop rental shops inventory tech... it can keep track of users, any type of info you want, basically... it could do everything but POS... the idea is that no one would have duplicates of the same UPC for personal use...

don't hold your breath for a "counter" - like i said... simply stating "duplicate" or "triplicate" in the notes field and then search for those words will work...

if you have so many dupes and trips that this is odd most likely you need software with a different intention or purpose.

Absolutely correct, jon. Commercial software costs a lot more than $30, and I have suspicion that if a counter were added which would take the program to near-commercial, not a single user would be willing to pay the price for it. OTOH a lot of renatl stores could only dream of being able to buy thei software for $30.

Suggestions to sell or gift the duplicate copies are a "let them eat cake" sort of answer -- missing the point entirely, and a bit arrogant, to boot!

How about a solution that would allow a small number of duplicates, say 2 or 3, with little development cost?

Suggesting that an inexpensive program be converted into a program which would be suitanble for commercial use is a bit ...welll....ummm...lesss than....

Question... how many dupes do you have and WHY. If you have a who;le bunch of dupes I can only think of one reason for it.
I MAYBE buy one a year by accident.

I can refer you to several pieces of COMMERCIAL software designed to run a video store BUSINESS but they aren't $30. I have to wonder why a user might have a whole bunch of dupes for what reason, and when he is provided with an answer(perhaps not the one he wanted but an answer within the limitations of the program) why he then gets insulting. Are you trying to run a business and want to use profiler to do it, would you be willing to pay $300-$400 for the software. That seems to be the going price for commercial software. Based on your insulting comment, I have to think that you have a lot of dupes because you are running a store and see Profiler as perhaps a way to do it on the cheap. Sorry, but that's how your tone hits me, and the general direction most of your questions so far would seem tpo point to.

Your kidding about this? Right?

Do you have any idea about how to keep track of an inventory? No video rental store tracks by the UPC on the case, they add their own barcode to each copy.

The reason that Ken has not added a way to have more then one copy of a DVD in your collection is that the profiles are keyed off of the UPC/disk-id, not off of a 'collection number'. He would need to change the way that the database is built.

You're kiddig, right. how many stores do you speak for? I know several in this market that do just that and add a marker to their program to indicate which copy it is .

Why are you always so argumentative and nasty, paul.

I did say allow a few -- 2-3 -- dups. Hardly sounds like a useful commercial program! And it would, I think, be a simple change to DP.

re why I have dups: That is beside the point, and not your concern. (I think that I only have two or three total.) One was an accidental purchase, the other came as the result of purchase of a boxed set that included one title that I already had.

I have several DVD's that DVDP cannot profile correctly. For example all DVD' s that have two movies on the same side of the disc. Should I give 'em away as "very nice gifts"? As this being Feature requests forum, your solution is, I'm sorry to say, idiotic.

Kulju:

What's the problem? You can use dividers to add cast and crew data for those titles? No, you can't create separate Audio. video, etc,  data, the program has a limitation there, but we are in Beta who knows maybe ken has an answer for us on that score.

I am sorry to say your comment is....ummm...well you provided an appropriate word...idiotic. WHY, oh why am I not surprised.
