The new Child's Play "20th Birthday Edition" DVD that was released yesterday is in the database with the UPC 883904-112259. Is this perhaps a pre-release error?

The coverscans approved and currently in the database for that profile now are with the UPC 883904-112242 which matches the only DVD that was released in stores yesterday. So, those coverscans are in the wrong profile regardless.

I assume that there was perhaps some pre-release mixup with the UPC. DVD Empire lists the 883904-112259 UPC code, but even the coverscans shown on their website are of the 883904-112242 UPC.

My question is then, was the "112259" UPC edition even released yesterday, or should this be removed from the database altogether? Other online stores such as:
DVD Pacific
Deep Discount
Buy
only list the 883904-112242 UPC and no other version of the release.

Not uncommon for Fox titles. Take "Her Best Move" which came out a few weeks ago. I found one profile in DVDProfiler, with High Resolution scans and everything. But it did not match the UPC on my cover. Everything else was identical.

So my guess is either a mixup, or there exists 2 identical releases with different UPC.

It is not uncommon at all, kat and the number sequence appears in order. There can be up to FOUR different UPC #s per given release. This is due to the various security systems in use at retail, how else would you make sure that Circuit City Security doesn't wind in Best Buy or vice versa. The four releases are not numbered sequentially but operate withing a narrow range in a sequence. So, I would assume that the mystery UPC simply belongs to some retailer or other.

It makes sense Skip. I think people may have it confused with the wide release UPC for some reason, and that's how the incorrect UPC coverscans got into the database.

There is no real definition for "wide release", Kat. I don't know which Distributors make use of Security System ID method. If a Distributor does use it then wide release would be the combination of the four possible UPC's, Best Buy(and any store using their system) would all of X system, Circuit City(and others) would get Y, the stores using the third system would get Z and the remainder with NO Security would A.
The wide release would X+Y+Z+A. So the question is only whether or not they use the system, I've neverworried about it enough to try and figure out who does and doesn't . I am aware of it, and if I get a title that is different from the pre-release I simply adjust the data, it doesn't happen very often, I think DVDEmpire and Best Buy use the same security system and DVDEmpire is my most common source for pre-release data, but sometimes. Now if you see a number that is way out of sequence, let's say 883904-115242 then we have an issue. The sequencing seems to always involve the last two digits.
