Previously we have requested credits like 'Theme by' 'Costumes by' 'Character Designer" and 'Created by'
It looks like it's time to request Supervising Producer as well

I think it is time to go with open credits in whatever form Ken chooses. Next we will have Tim or somebody trying to create an interpretation which will allow Co-Execs or co something or other. And we will be at it again, the ONLY answer is to be able to list the data as we see it On Screen. The best answer, though nightmarish, would be completely open. The second best would be limited open within the Job categories we have established or may in the future. This has its share of potential issues and arguments, such as Is Makeup part of the Art dept? But limited would at least eliminate most of the BS we see presently.

As long as we are subject to the existing system, we will have to contend with the vagaries of Hollywood. We don't know what we don't know, but we will find out and then...SENIOR Art Director is a good one, and if and when we choose to accomodate that then someone will find SUPER Senior Art Director and her we go again. So the best way is simply to be able to list it as we see it.

I agree here. Yes it will be a pain to re-profile all my movies, but the possibility to add all the crew credit will be a big +. If it's done like it's done with the cast using the role spot, it will be easy to profile everybody.

Since this appears to be a key credit for TV shows, I think it would be a good idea to add it as a separate item from Executive Producer or Producer.

I would not add Supervising producer under the existing system james. For the reason that it has TWO separate definitions in TV and Film, in fact in film the job is not even officially recognized, even though the credit exists. Under an open entry definition is unimportant, just enter the data. But the SP in film is NOT the same as the SP in TV.

Yes, Ken, it really is time for you to address this. Whether you do it by adding credits in the program, or by rewriting the crew rules, or both, doesn't really matter, but the situation really needs addressing. And it's not just producers; the problem applies to other categories as well: "supervising editors", "supervising sound mixers", I encountered a "senior art director" today,... These are all valid credits that should be able to be handled by DVD Profiler without endless debates.

I'm not really that picky about how the crew is credited, though I would like to be able to recognize at least the Director(s) from a credit list even if it is a language I do not understand (or my plugin/export reader etc doesn't understand).

So a pure free text field with no further metadata would be problematic...

I'm actually quite happy with the current system. There are a few minor adjustments that could be made to improve it (especially in the wording of some rules and definitions) but I don't really understand why some people feel they have to credit every last person they see on screen like it was the most important job ever and the profile wouldn't be complete without it. So they try to fit it into an existing category after their own mind. But these people will never stop no matter how many new categories are added so I see no other way of avoiding that than completely changing the way we enter credits. Something I don't look forward to. I'd rather have a limited set of well defined job categories and ignore everything that falls outside it. My main purpose for using this program is after all to profile the dvd, not the movie.

Personally, I was happier when all we had was 2 spots for director. I never was much for crew info anyway.

I do love that we have 20 director slots, writing and production credits. But for the rest of crew I do not care that much.
