| Posted: | | | | A couple years ago I bought the dvd profiler version 2.4, didn't have any issues adding new dvds to it but today I decided to (finally) upgrade my profiler to version 3.1 and when I tried to upload all of my previously entered (400 something) dvds from the 2.4 it would only allow 50 until I got my new key, now as I'm trying to enter all of my new dvds it wants to connect to the internet or something and I immediately get this Socket Error # 10061 Connection Failed. I've already followed invelos.com suggestion to disarm my firewalls, that didn't help. So I'm still having the same problem here, any suggestions? and why is it trying to connect to the internet? I just want to add in my new movies!! |

| Posted: | | | | I think it's trying to connect to the internet in order to update it's list of profiles. This is something the new version of Profiler does every time it runs. Have you tried using the alternate internet connection in Options?
Can I ask - how are you trying to restore your old collection? If you still have access to 2.4 and your old database, did you know it's possible to backup your collection and restore it into the new version? |

| Posted: | | | | An Online connection for DVDProfiler is needed for downloading and refreshing your profiles, not to forget for checking if the UPC you just entered is available in the online database.
For your main problem: What kind of connection are you using dial up or DSL? Do you use proxies, VPN or direct connection? What are your TCP/IP settings? | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Further to this, see this thread on How to Upgrade to move your collection accross from 2.4 It won't help with your present problem but hopefully 'Alternate connection' (as advised) will do so. FWIW the only time I get a 10061 is at work if my connection is blocked by the work's firewall so do double check yours is off (eg. if you're running Vista then Vista hasn't put its own in there or something similar). | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Answer:
First, select Tools->Options->Online, and click Test Internet Connection. DVD Profiler will self-configure and attempt to access the Invelos servers.
If the connection test fails and you are otherwise able to access the Internet, the problem is very likely due to a local firewall. Configure your firewall to allow DVD Profiler to access the Internet, (specifically to www.invelos.com and static.invelos.com).
Once you've reconfigured your firewall, retry the Test Internet Connection feature. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions. |

| Posted: | | | | Just wanted to update everyone. I ended up having to wipe out and restore my entire system last night. I should have known before thats what was wrong with my profiler (and everything else, i've been having issues with this computer for a couple years now) so everythings working great now on the new system and my profiler is now fully cooperating *knock on wood* ((and northbloke, I knew about the backup thing before I upgraded, but when I upgraded and tried to load it would only allow 50 of my dvds to come back without my new key. Got my new key and when I tried to find my backup it wasn't there but backup now certainly wont help with a new system lol i'll be busy all day today updating windows and entering 400-500 something upc codes! |
