Probably old news, but the bfi's very first blu-ray release will be Salo, or The 120 Days of Sodom!

That's one film where you think: do I really want to see more detail?

For our transatlantic colleagues, DVDTimes says it will be region-free.

As far as I know both this and the previous DVD release are the full versions of the film, as opposed to the Criterion release which bizarrely is missing a scene where a poem is read.

Wow, thanks.  I'm glad I held off buying the Criterion DVD.  Just ordered from Amazon UK.

That did crack me up when I was reading up on this film.  Please, leave in the scenes where the hostages are made to eat human feces (now, in glorious HD!  ) but cut out the scene where someone reads a poem.  There will be none of that literary rhyming non-sense going on!

At what time should that poem be ?

I have 2 DVD versions:

- US, Criterion Collection DVD
very poor picture quality ! Matted to ~ 1.75:1 aspect ratio

- Dutch, Paradiso release DVD

Much better picture quality ! Released in 1.66 aspect ratio
Disc also has extra's, 'making of' with Pasolini interviewed, trailer...

So it would very nice to see how this and other scenes would look like on 1060p Blu-ray  !!!
But surely for all the Criterion version buyers they would see a whole new movie in high definition.
Lets hope it wont be only region B.

According to DVD Beaver it occurs at 42:24 (which I think is about 44:10 NTSC) and is around the time of the "wedding" ceremony.

Thank you for the great link !

I checked it with the Dutch Paradiso DVD and the scene on the stairs is only a few seconds.
Before and after i dont hear a poem so i presume its missing from the Paradiso release too .

Here's an answer from Criterion about why the footage is missing.  After reading the answer, it seems to me like Criterion made the right choice.

Won't know until it's released but it sounds from that like the upcoming BFI release won't have the poem in either.
